Dear Club Secretary,

Your Club is invited to enter the 2016 Belfast Sprint Regatta.

The BRC sprint course is short – 500m from a pontoon start - straight and buoyed in front of the boathouses on the River Lagan. It is safe and hence ideal for the young, inexperienced, novice and club rowers in your club and all races can be followed alongside by bicycle.

The event details are as follows:-

  • Date of the regatta - SATURDAY 28thMay 2016.
  • The course is approximately 500m long, with 2 buoyed lanes starting from a pontoon upstream from the Governor’s Bridge and finishing at Belfast Rowing Club.
  • The regatta is NON-STATUS
  • Entries must be via Rowing Ireland on line tracker system
  • Events & entry fees – see attached
  • Entries close on WEDNESDAY 18thMay2016 at 7.00pm.
  • TIMETABLE will be produced FRIDAY 20thMay.
  • The regatta will be run under Rowing Ireland rules
  • Safety statement – see attached
  • Non Rowing Ireland clubs should contact the regatta Secretary regarding entries.

BELFAST SPRINT REGATTA 2016

RULES OF THE REGATTA

  • Entries must be via the Rowing Ireland on line Tracker entry system.
  • MAXIMUM 3 events per person - please identify by email competitors in multiple events / grades
  • Please ensure you have sufficient boats for all entries
  • Competitors must be currently registered with Rowing Ireland.
  • Winners will be checked. Please ensure crew changes are correctly noted at regatta control.
  • Entry fees in sterling to be paid BEFORE competing.
  • There may be random drug testing of competitors – by Irish Sports Council unit.
  • Clubs should ensure all equipment meets current safety requirements.
  • A copy of the TIMETABLE will be published on Rowing Ireland web-site.
  • Please ensure your Club has the necessary insurances in place - equipment and 3rd party.
  • Medals will be awarded to all winners – minimum of 2 clubs entered.
  • Crew food will be on sale at the Clubhouse between 10.00 - 3.00pm
  • The Committee of Belfast Rowing Club accept NO LIABILITY for any injury to competitors, coaches, officials, spectators, or any other person from whatever cause; for any damage or loss to boats, equipment or other goods or property belonging to any competitor, coach, official, spectator or any other person.
  • The Regatta Committee reserve the right to make any alteration to the programme which they deem necessary and their decision in all cases will be final.

BELFAST SPRINT REGATTA - SAFETY STATEMENT

The Belfast Sprint Regatta is run in accordance with the Rowing Ireland Safety Guidelines for regattas along with the relevant aspects of the Water Safety Code. The Regatta Committee is committed to running the event in a safe manner.

SAFETY ADVISOR – TBC

MEDICAL ADVISOR– Ambutran – mobile medical unit.

POLICYIt is the policy of the Regatta Committee to encourage water safety awareness throughout the event.

INTENTIt is the intention of the Regatta Committee to implement its own safety policy and to provide an example to participating clubs by creating a safe environment during the event.

METHODAll rowing to be conducted in accordance with current Rowing Ireland rules. Event details, course map and other relevant information to be circulated to the club secretaries of each participating club. All participants should be aware of this policy.

All rowing to be conducted in accordance with current Rowing Ireland safety guidelines. Checks will be made by marshals to ensure equipment is safe – including for example secure, correct type bow balls fitted, suitable heel restraints, and general boat condition.

Coxswains must wear suitable flotation aids.

Course map – to be displayed at Regatta Control at Belfast Rowing Club.

Safety launch – a dedicated safety launch will be on the course throughout the event. The launch will have the necessary rescue equipment. First aid will also be carried on the launch. All regatta officials will have details of how to deal with an emergency.

First Aid – available from the safety launch, the start pontoon and regatta control on Belfast Rowing Club balcony. Ambutran will be in the car park at Belfast Rowing Club.

Incidents – regatta officials will be instructed to report all incidents where safety is compromised

Emergency Services – regatta control will have details of the nearest hospital with Accident & Emergency facilities. Access routes to be kept free.

Communication – Regatta officials will be in radio contact with each other, the safety launch and regatta control. Mobile phones will be used as back-up.

Public address – announcements can be made from regatta control at Belfast Rowing Club.

RESPONSIBILITYIn accordance with current guidelines it is the responsibility of each participating club committee to ensure the safety of their members while participating, including knowing what to do if they fall in, be competent to compete and wear appropriate clothing for the weather conditions.
