  1. Timing.

  1. Registration. Registration will take in the Lions’ Den in the clubhouse between 09:00 and 10:00. All teams and team members must be registered by their coach or manager using the form in the welcome pack.
  2. Site Plan. A site plan will be issued with the programme.
  3. Catering. Players will be issued with a free snack pack at Registration. It is recommended that players bring their own lunch or purchase food on-site. There will be bacon butties & hot drinks available to purchase on the 2nd team pitch. Hot food, hot drinks and of course alcoholic refreshments will be available to purchase from the main club house.
  4. Discipline. RFU Guidance is abundantly clear on the subject of verbal abuse of players & officials, dissent and bad language, by players, coaches or spectators; they will not be tolerated. Club officials must take responsibility for the behaviour of their players and supporters; should an incident occur support in dealing with it will be expected.
  5. Spectators. Spectators are not allowed on the 1st team pitch (in front of the clubhouse). The areas between the U7 & U8 pitches and between the U9 & U10 pitches are to be kept clear (including first aid kits and water carriers); the only personnel allowed in these areas are 1 coach per team and match officials. Spectators are to be at least 1m from all touch, touch-in-goal, and dead ball lines.
  6. Contact. A member of the organising team will be available in or around the front of the clubhouse; this should be your first point of contact on the day.
  7. Cricket Square. The cricket square (adjacent to the pitches for U7-10s) is cordoned off; please keep off. Balls should not be used in the vicinity of the cricket square, and on no account should anyone wearing studs go onto the square.
  8. Litter. Please ensure that teams and spectators clear up after themselves. Bin bags will be provided at registration, there are also bins around the ground; please use them.
  9. Lost Property. There will be a clearly marked point in the club house on the ground floor where any items found or handed in will be kept.
  10. Cameras. In accordance with RFU guidelines, we require anyone wishing to take photographs on the day to register his or her camera. The attached Camera Registration Form should be emailed back to me at the latest by Tuesday 2 Oct 12. When you register your team at the start of the festival, you will be given a sticker for each registered camera; this must be displayed on the camera for the duration of the festival.
  1. Photographs. We are pleased to announce that DE Photo have been appointed as the Professional Sports Photographers for the festival; by its very nature, this is in the public arena and when entering for the event the participant and his or her parents acknowledge this fact, which may result in the recording and publication of his/her image. All DE Photo photographers and staff have been CRB checked and the company operates a strict Child Protection Policy and Code of Ethics which can be viewed on their website at Photos will be available to buy on the day or from the DE website.
  2. Parking. Parking, including a programme, will be £5; parking is at St Matthew's Bloxham School; please take care not to damage the grass or grounds of the school. Please follow the directions to get to the festival for your club (see below for details)
  3. Medals/Trophies. Team Medals will be awarded to all players in each age group up to U11s. These will be given out at Registration. A Winners and Runners-Up Trophy will be awarded in the U12s age group. Individual medals will also be awarded to the winning team in the U12s.

Regulations

  1. Law 6.A.4.a. The referee is the sole judge of fact and of Law during a match.
  2. Continuum. All games will be played in accordance with the RFU’s Rugby Continuum Regulations 2012/13. Any clarification required regarding the application of ELVs will be given during the briefing. The only variation to the Continuum is that there will be no conversion kicks.
  3. League. There will be no league for U7’s, U8’s, U9’s, U10’s and U11’s. For U12’s the competition will be run on a league basis. 1 point will be awarded for each try scored. Matches will be brought to an end if the score difference reaches six tries (CR 9.1.4).
  • 2 league points will be awarded for a win, 1 point for a draw, none for a loss
  • In the event of a tie on league points, positions will be decided on the following basis:

  1. Maximum Squad Sizes and Game Length. The maximum number of players per squad is as follow:

  1. Substitutions. Substitutions may take place at any time that the ball is dead with the permission of the referee. Substituted players may not take any further part in that game unless it is to replace an injured player.
  2. Referees and Touch Judges. Warwickshire Society of Referees will provide referees for U12 age group. U7 to U11’s age groups will be refereed by a coach from a neutral team as detailed on the Order of Play. For all matches each team shall provide 1 touch judge who should present him/herself to the referee at the start of the match. These touch judges are not assistant referees in accordance with ELV 1, however if a Society referee chooses to run touch he or she will fulfil the duties of an assistant referee.
  3. Coaches on the Pitch. In U7 & U8 games 1 coach may coach on the pitch behind the players. At all other age groups no one other than the players are allowed on the pitch without the permission of the referee.
  4. Studs. Stud Checks will be carried out by a Society referee for the U12s before the start of the festival. U7s – U11’s stud check to be carried out by coaches.
  5. Discipline. If a referee decides that a player must take no further part in a match (sends off), he or she may be substituted but may take no further part in the festival. However, if a referee decides that player would benefit from an opportunity to cool down (caution), he or she may instruct a coach to substitute a player; that player may take no further part in that match but may continue to play in the festival. Should a further caution be necessary that player would take no further part in the festival.

  • You will not be allowed to turn right off Bilton Road into Webb Ellis Road.
  • Do not follow the directions on the club website.
  • Use the directions below, this will minimise traffic disruption.
  • Use the St Matthew's Bloxham School grounds for car parking.
  • Access is either by heading northeast on Bilton Road towards Rugby, or from Lawford Road into Seabroke Avenue and Bloxham Gardens. Webb Ellis Road will be a no parking road for the day. Only traffic for the tennis club or LA fitness will be permitted to turn right travelling southwest along Bilton Road into Webb Ellis Road.

From the South

Exit M1 at junction 17 onto M45 headed towards Coventry South.

Take 1st exit at roundabout onto A45 towards Coventry.

Approaching the Travelodge, turn left onto A4071.

Take next left following A4071 signs to Rugby (you are turning back on yourself to cross the A45).

At junction, turn right onto Lawford Heath Lane towards Rugby on A4071.

Webb Ellis Road, to Rugby Lions is on left hand side, after ~3 miles.

From the North

Either:

Exit M6 at junction 1 onto A426 towards Rugby.

Stay on A426 towards Town Centre, passing Express by Holiday Inn, Tesco, under railway bridge.

Take 1st exit at roundabout onto Newbold Road towards Town Centre.

Take 3rd exit at roundabout onto Oliver Street.

At traffic lights turn right onto Lawford Road towards Coventry.

After ~quarter mile, turn left onto Seabroke Avenue, continue into Bloxham Gardens.

Turn right into Rugby Lions festival car park at St Matthew's Bloxham School.

Or

Take A444, A5, M69 sign-posted Coventry, A46.

At roundabout take 1st exit onto A428 Rugby Road.

Stay on A428; on reaching outskirts of Rugby you will pass Rugby Cement Works on left.

Over mini roundabout.

Take 3rd right turn after ~1/3 mile into Seabroke Avenue, continue into Bloxham Gardens.

Turn right into Rugby Lions festival car park at St Matthew's Bloxham School.
