TAB POLICY
- Late Arrivals
- Teams that arrive later than 15 minutes after Round 1 pairings are read may be automatically dropped from Round 1, receive 0 speaker points, and receive a combined rank of 7. Teams showing up to rounds later than Round 1 may be permitted to debate at the discretion of the Tab Director and Tournament Director.
- Scratches
- Each individual team may scratch up to 2 (two) judges. Any additional scratches must be justified to the Tab Observer.
- Round 1 shall be paired by seeding as follows, in greatest to least priority:
- Full Seed
- Half Seed
- Free Seeds
- Unseeded
- Rounds 2, 3, 4, and 5 shall be tabulated as follows, in greatest to least priority:
- Teams shall hit teams of the same record
- No team shall hit the same team twice
- No team shall be judged by…
- the same adjudicator twice
- someone from their own school
- someone who has been officially scratched
- Teams shall not hit teams from their own school, unless a school occupies more than half of a bracket
- Teams shall be paired high-low within each bracket according to the priorities in Section III
- Pullup method: Pull from middle of bracket below
- Team standings shall be calculated in order of:
- Winloss score from prelim rounds
- Points score from prelim rounds
- Ranks score from prelim rounds
- Headtohead score from prelim rounds
- Points score from prelim rounds, except the 1 best & worst
- Ranks score from prelim rounds, except the 1 best & worst
- Points score from prelim rounds, except the 2 best & worst
- Ranks score from prelim rounds, except the 2 best & worst
- Coinflip score from prelim rounds
- Speaker standings shall be calculated in order of:
- Points score from prelim rounds
- Ranks score from prelim rounds
- Points score from prelim rounds, except the 1 best & worst
- Ranks score from prelim rounds, except the 1 best & worst
- Points score from prelim rounds, except the 2 best & worst
- Ranks score from prelim rounds, except the 2 best & worst
- Coinflip score from prelim rounds
- Outrounds:
- We shall break 8 varsity teams to Quarterfinals, and four additional novice teams to novice semi-finals. Sides shall be determined in order of the following…
- The team with more rounds on Gov, cumulatively, gets choice.
- In the circumstance where both teams tie for rounds on Gov, decided by Coinflip.
- Speaker Scores:
- An average varsity speech should receive a 25.
- Half-points and quarter-points are allowed.
- Tie-point wins are also allowed.
- Low-point wins are NOT allowed.
- Speaker scores 23.25 and under, as well as speaker scores 27 and over, must be justified to the Tab Director. The justification must not reveal the name(s) of the debater(s).
- Panels
- Inround panels shall deliberate, and submit a single consensus or majority decision.
- Outround panels shall deliberate, and vote independently.
- Disputes
- The Tab Director and Tab Team shall have absolute determination concerning resolutions of disputes regarding Tab Policy.
