ROTATION SCHEDULING – CURRENT R2s

Welcome to the annual Rites of Spring process! As some of you know, this is your opportunity to express preferences about your rotations for next year. Below, you will find a number of choices regarding your schedule for next year. Descriptions of specific rotations are available on the resident website at:

Please note that you will probably not end up with all of your first choices. Thus, it is very important that you let us know which thing(s) you feel the most strongly about. So, please indicate which issues/choices matter the most to you.

Your R3 year will be an outpatient year and will include:

1. at least one day per week continuity clinic (this will probably NOT be the day of the week when you have clinic now)

2. child and adolescent psychiatry one day per week (OR 2 days/week x 6 months)

3. addiction psychiatry one day/week x 6 months

4. geriatric psychiatry one day/week x 6 months

5. other adult outpatient at UW/HMC/VA

6. didactics + supervision (Thursdays)

7. if you entered as an R2, you will also need to do emergency psychiatry one day per week for 3-6 months at HMC

IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO DO A CHILD FELLOWSHIP starting as an R4, you do NOT need to do a Child rotation during the general psychiatry residency unless you want to (e.g. to decide about or confirm your interest in Child). To enter a Child fellowship as an R4, you need to apply through the Child Match in the fall of your R3 year. 5. The Seattle VA offers an Interprofessional Education rotation. This involves spending two days per week (Mon and Friday) for 6 months in the VA Primary Care Center of Excellence working in a team (psychiatry, primary care, psychology, pharmacy, etc.) providing psychiatric consultation and participating in a structured didactic program in interprofessional education. This rotation fulfills the primary care consultation requirement for our program, part of the outpatient psychiatry requirement, and the QI project requirement. 6. Please list here any other specific outpatient rotations you would like to do, or outpatient sites you would like to spend time at, during your R3 year, as well as any other comments/requests you have about your schedule.

7. If you are interested in doing research during your R3 year, please discuss this with me. You may do a research elective one or two days per week for up to 12 months OR full-time for up to 6 months of the year, as long as you have a mentor and a proposed project.
