ROTARY DISTRICT 5000

ROTARY FOUNDATION NEWSLETTER

MARCH 2014

This month’s edition is somewhat abbreviated since both or District Governor and District Rotary Foundation Chair have been traveling and doing the good works of Rotary.

We are three quarters of the way through the current Rotary year, so two portions of this newsletter are very important.

First, our monthly chart showing where all clubs stand as far as reaching their Foundation goals for the year. The information shown is current as of March 23. Just three months left to not only achieve but hopefully exceed your goals for the year.

Note that only four clubs in the District have added any new Benefactors or Bequest Society members. This is the worst showing in this category that we have had in years. Please consider becoming a Benefactor, or if you are already one, upgrading to Bequest Society member. Your bequests continue to give forever and are important to our District as it allows us to continue our good works.

Second, all clubs must qualify each year in order to be able to participate in District Grants and/or Global Grants. To qualify, a club must submit:

1)A Memorandum of Understanding

2)The 2014-15 addendum to that Memorandum

3)Their Financial Plan

4)A copy of their 2013 tax return

5)If they plan to participate in a District Grant in 2014-15, a copy of a bank statement for their Grants Account. There must be a separate bank account, apart from a clubs operating account or any other bank account that is solely for District Grant funds.

6)A final report if your club had a District Simplified Grant in 2012-13.

There is a chart in this newsletter that shows which qualifications clubs have met as of March 20, 2014

The chart also shows what the club allocations will be for District Grants and Global Grants in 2014-15.

FROM RICH ZEGAR, ANNUAL GIVING CHAIR

Every Rotarian Every Year

Time Treasure or Talent

If you look at the updated spreadsheet in this issue you will see that many Clubs are woefully behind in their support of the Foundation for this Rotary Year. More than half of you are behind where you need to be to achieve your fund raising goal. We have time to turn it around if you, the Club Foundation Chairs, with the help of your President make an effort. We are all volunteers but if you volunteer to do a job you need to do it!I have attached a great article you can use in your efforts to increase support,

I am sorry to say that as of this month D-5000 is now 9th of 16 Districts in our respective Zones in EREY participation. We need to and can do better. I think many of you have heard me speaking about Foundation support and pointing out that the main reason people give is BECAUSE THEY ARE ASKED. You need to get off your duff and make a personal effort. All Rotarian are and should feel obliged to support the Foundation to the best of their capability.

Paul Jurcsak and I will see you on Maui on April 5 and Dave Berry will join us on Oahu on April 12 at the respective assemblies.

Thanks

Rich Zegar

Year-end Strategies for Achieving 100% Every Rotarian Every Year (EREY)

PDG Helene A. Kalfuss, Ph.D., TRF EREY Coordinator, Zone 26

There are three full months left in this Rotary year and that means that we all have to get those stragglers in our clubs who have not as yet contributed to The Rotary Foundation to pony up! At this point in time, it requires face to face contact to remind them of why we give and that their lack of a contribution will prevent the club from achieving its goal of 100% EREY participation. Pin them down for a certain date by which you can expect to get the check. That date should be no later than May 15th.If you do this now, you’ll have the time to keep after them until they have contributed. Do not give up on your EREY efforts! Every amount of money given, funds needed humanitarian services. You can be a 100% EREY club!

To go above and beyond your club’s goal, there is also what I like to call “Double Dipping,” which applies to those who have already given a contribution this Rotary year. I have found that very often if a donor is asked for another contribution towards the end of the year they will be happy to write another check! It is a well known fact that TRF generous donors are more likely to repeat their generosity regularly. Imagine what we can do if everyone gave an additional $50.00 this year! For a club of 30 members, that would be an additional $1,500.00! Try it- it works!Every penny counts, so any amount will be an added bonus!

If you have Foundation Recognition Points to use, they often serve as additional “Double Dipping” motivation. It works very well with those who wish to get their first Paul Harris Fellow because if they got matching points in the beginning of the year it took them much closer to that goal than they expected. If you offer them additional matching points for a second contribution, they can actually complete their PHF requirement that same year or at the very least get much, much closer than they ever anticipated. Just keep in mind that you must transfer a minimum of 100 points which may in and of itself encourage a $100.00 contribution!

At this time of year it is not unusual for clubs to determine what causes to give their club foundation funds and/or excess club dollars. It is a golden opportunity for the Foundation Chair to suggest they be given to TRF’s Annual Fund to perform the miracles we’d like to see in our own communities as well as worldwide and significantly add to the club’s annual goal as well. They also have the opportunity to restrict their contribution to one of the six areas of focus if they wish. Additionally, the club could decide to remit the contribution in the names of its members allocating the total amount evenly amongst them to insure 100% EREY is achieved.

Lastly, when non-Rotarians are aware of what TRF does, they will contribute.SHOW THEM AND ASK THEM !Invite them to the club to see a special TRF program. Their contribution will go in under your club’s number and increase your annual goal performance as well.

100% EREY- A GOAL YOU CAN ACHIEVE!

The information shown on this chart reflects what was received from The Rotary Foundation as of March 23, 2014. Keep in mind that there is some lag time
from the time you submit your information to The Rotary Foundation and the time it is credited to your Club. So,all in late February, early March may not be reflected in this chart.
The second from last column shows how much more you need to contribute to be on track to meet your annual goal as of the end of February.
The last column shows what your total should be now to be on track for your annual goal for the year.
