Roslyn High School Library – Pathfinder for Literature Research

AP Literature and Composition 2016-2017

RESEARCH involves systematically exploring every possible resource until you have enough information to support your thesis and write your paper.

You are required to read books by, and find biographical and critical information about, an author. There are specific print and digital resources for literary research. The Dewey Decimal range for literature is the 800’s which is further expanded by authors’ nationality and works produced, e.g. poetry, essays, fiction, plays. When using an automated library catalog, note call numbers.

Monographs (print) are individual books, biographical and/or critical works about particular authors. The HS Library has some titles for some authors. Use the Bryant Library for a larger selection of these titles.

Reference materials (print) are multivolume sets or single volumes that include many authors. Search each reference work that includes world or American authors, as relevant.
