Room Parent Meeting (September 2012)

Congratulations on becoming a room parent! As a room parent, there are a few things that you (along with the teacher and other room parents, of course) are responsible for. They are spaced out quite nicely, so hopefully it will not be overwhelming to you!

The purpose of room parents is:

  • To increase communication between teachers and parents.
  • Decrease teacher’s load – DELEGATE work load
  • Meet with teacher to Discuss:

Class roster

Class Parties (Dates and Times)

Collections/Requests for Money (PLEASE discuss with teacher)

-Attaching an envelope helps to get money returned to school from parents

-Put receipts in an envelope and let parents know that the receipts are there

-Parents’ Night Out Auction plans/Basket

Class Roster: (VOLUNTARY – parents can opt out!!!)

Collect child’s and parent’s names, address, phone, e-mail and make copies for all

Make distribution e-mail list

E-mail: Quick and efficient way to disseminate information and/or to ask for assistance

Class Parties:

Usually 4 parties a year including Halloween (end of October); Holidays (end of December); Valentine’s Day (February); End of school (June)

Most teachers want to decide on the day for the parties (some like the Thursday before the holiday, some like Friday) and some even have extra things they like to celebrate (that’s why I said, “usually”). Please check with them to see if they have a preference before you commit to the parents. Also, the school (per the district) is requesting that we request no more than $10 per child if you collect money for all the parties combined at the beginning of the year.

Once you have finalized the dates and times for parties, it is nice to send a letter home to the parents letting them know with the request for money. If you would like to ask for money or items at each party instead of the one-time donation, that is also fine, although sometimes that is a lot more work!

KEEP IT SIMPLE!

Parties may include a game, a craft and a treat (be aware of allergies!)

Keep parents informed of dates and times of parties (flyers, e-mails, etc.)

More party time = less academic time

Teacher Gifts:

Please let parents know ahead of time if you are planning a group gift.

Shutterfly & Learning Point Permission

(Teacher’s Name) – (Room Number) – 2012-13

Each year I like to include photos in the students’ memory books. This year I would love to have a site where you could upload pictures to a group room for all of the parents in my room to see. This way I could ask for help with photo developing and I could easily get copies of the photos you take of our class activities. However, in order to do this I need permission from every parent in our class. Please sign below if you are willing for photos of your child to be uploaded to Shutterfly and learning point for other families in our classroom to view.

I give permission for photos of ______to be uploaded, viewed and printed on the Shutterfly and learning point website. I understand that these websites will be accessible by password to families in (Teacher’s) class.
