  1. Welcome/review minutes: No corrections noted
  2. Reports:
  3. Students: Trivia Night has been postponed till next fall. Hard work is continuing on the plans for the IHS Celebration. 50/50 raffle tickets are on sale. Student government observed Teacher Appreciation Week (thank you!)
  4. Staff:This Friday we will be doing PD on ALICE training and other items, as well as curriculum collaboration; midterm grades will be due Sunday night. Graduation planning progresses apace.
  5. IB:First week of IB testing is over—some adventures like losing electricity for a while at one of our testing sites (it came back on, fortunately), but generally everything has gone well. 726 assessments were administered in the first week. Testing continues this week and next.
  6. EEF Grant Proposals/Prioritization: We discussed the EEF grant proposals (next page) and agreed on the following ranking of EEF grant applications: 1. Questia, 2. computers, 3. public speakers, 4. video cameras
  7. 8th Grade Information Planning for 2017-2018:Jessica reported on her meeting with district leadership regarding 8th grade outreach and information. We are limited in how we are allowed to communicate to middle schools. We will also have to revise how we do our 8th grade information nights next year. Site council members continued to express the need for middle school students and families to get information. We will try to work with administrators on ways to improve communication with middle schools.
  8. Bell schedules:Conversations are continuing at host schools about bell schedules for next year. Late starts, which we thought were off the table, are back as possibilities again. We don’t know when bell schedules will be decided. In the meantime, we are not able to move forward with any scheduling or teacher assignments for next year as the bell schedule may change the way we offer Seminar instruction.

Next meeting: Tuesday, June 13, 4:15-5:15, same location

Summary of IHS EEF Grant Proposals, Spring 2017

Computers for Student Use (Brian)

  • Amount requested: $5000
  • We are looking to bolster our aging supplemental computer collection with new Macbook airs. The computers that we arecurrently using daily are over 15 years old and are starting to fail. $5,000 would allow us to purchase up to 6 newer computers.
  • Our IHS supplemental computers are critical to the services we provide on a daily basis. Here are the main ways these computers will support our program:Student use outside of class for kids who do not have access at home; student use with our instructional assistant Suzanne Jarvis outside of class and during testing; class group projects when mobile computer labs are unavailable; substitute teacher computer use.

Online Library: Questia (Kyle)

  • Amount requested: $1500
  • This grant would give all of our students access to the Questia online library. This would substantially expand the resources they have available for writing research papers, especially the challenging senior paper.
  • The $1500 would pay for a one-year subscription to Questia for all IHS students. While it would be beneficial to a number of classes/subjects, it would be especially valuable for juniors and seniors working on their senior research papers.

Public Speakers/Performers (Steve)

  • Amount requested: $2500
  • Funds would be used to bring in speakers, artist, and performers who present a global focus in the areas of international culture, politics, and art.
  • Presenters would appear at opening assembly for all students and at grade levels/combined classes for other events.

Video Cameras (Jessica)

  • Amount requested: $1000
  • Funds would be used to purchase four new video cameras (cost for Canon cameras recommended by 4J tech department is approximately $250 apiece) for staff and student use. The video cameras we have are out of date and are incompatible with current computer operating systems.
  • Cameras would be available for checkout by students for school projects and for use by teachers.
