2 / Minutes of January 19, 2010 Meeting
Motion to accept minutes by Denise Roche. Seconded by Siobhan St. John. All in favor.
3 / Business Arising
Much Music Video Dance
Dance to be held on March 15, 2011 from 7:30 to 10:30.
Murals
Murals have been taken down. The Student Council will be given access to a room upstairs to work on murals. Silhouettes to be sketched and cut out. Mr. Jackson to help in sketching murals. Student Council to take leadership in this project and Mrs. Head will provide assistance if required.
Renovations Update
The date for completion of renovations at Roncalli is Feb. 28, 2011. Work is approximately 95% complete. However, there are still a number of deficiencies such as outdoor cameras not working, outdoor bells not working, vents covered up, etc. Mr. Percey to follow up and notify council of progress and if everything will be completed by Feb. 28 or if there will be a new completion date.
Letter to Board, Director, and Board Trustees regarding stage
Another letter has been sent with regard to the construction of a stage at Roncalli. No response back from Board to date.
Showers
Susan contacted Mr. John Elkins at the Board with regard to showers not working at Roncalli for students. Mr. Elkins recommended that the showers should be in working order and he contacted Mr. Pat Royal with regard to this issue. Mr. Tom Noseworthy advised that when the Board has their own plumber in place that this issue will be resolved.
Protocol Agreement
Protocol Agreement was presented. Once signatures are obtained from Mr. Rick Dalton and or Ms. Bernie McDonald, the Protocol Agreement will be sent to Mr. Ray Noel at the Board Office.

Confirmation Students – Social Justice
Susan asked on behalf of students doing confirmation from Avondale to Colliers if students could have a cookie/ice cream sale one recess period to raise money to support a social justice cause as part of their preparation for confirmation. Mr. Percey will check it out and let students know.
4 / External Review
Ms. Head gave an overview of the external review process. The external review will begin on Monday, Feb. 28, 2011. School Council to meet with external review members at 6:30 on March 1, 2011. On March 2, 2011, students will be released after period 4. This will allow the external review members to give an oral presentation on the results obtained from the external review process at 1:30. All council members are invited to attend.
5 / Principal’s Report
Eastern School District’s New Strategic Plan
Mr. Percey encouraged everyone to check out the strategic plan on the Eastern School District’s webpage and provide comments/feedback. The deadline for comments is March 31, 2011.
Staffing Update
Ms. Dunphy has returned back from sick leave.
Academic Update
Term Two Parent Teachers Interviews were held on Feb. 10, 2011. There was some discussion regarding the interview process whether it should be in the gym or classroom. Mr. Percey to discuss with staff. It was also raised by Ms. Denise Roche that there should be a process implemented so that when teachers are providing information regarding a student (marks), that the parent/guardian should not be able to see other student’s marks.
There was some discussion regarding afternoon tutorials offered by teachers. These tutorials will now be posted in a newsletter and posted on the new web page for parents to view.
Math Resources and links to online tutoring to be posted on new website and school newsletters.
School Web Page
Ms. Head advised that the new web page will soon be up. We are behind approximately one month.
Library
Ms. Head thanked Denise and Susan for helping with the Library. When codes come in, the process of coding books will continue. All new books will be displayed in front for students. Magazines will be ordered by Ms. Head. Susan to check with Scholastic Book Fairs with regard to credit certificates that the school has earned from past book fairs. Certificates can be used to purchase magazines or other reading materials, etc. When library is complete, Ms. Head will open the library on Tuesday and Thursday lunch hours for any student who wants to avail of the use of computers, read or check out new books.
Teacher Appreciation Week
Teachers were appreciative of the activities carried out during Teacher Appreciation Week. Ms. Holly Lambe, Teacher Representative, indicated before coming to Roncalli, she did not know that there was a Teacher Appreciation Week. On behalf of teachers, she expressed a heartfelt thanks to parents. She stated that it gave you more “Pep in Your Step” to come to school to know that you were so appreciated. Ms. Head requested a list of parents that provided gift certificates, food items, etc. for the potluck lunch and auction. Susan to forward copy. However, it was felt that it was better to send a general thank you as opposed to individual thank yous just in case some parents get overlooked.
