Research Interests
My primary interest is in the properties of nuclear matter under extreme conditions of excitation, density, and shape. To probe the behavior of matter under these conditions a wide variety of methods
have been used from mass asymmetric, high energy light heavy-ion reactions to Fermi energy collisions of more mass symmetric heavy-ions to ternary fission. The focus of our attention is the multifragment decay of excited, deformed, and rarefied nuclear matter. We have investigated the spatial-temporal extent of the multifragmenting system by using fragment-fragment velocity correlations. We are also involved in studying the onset of collective flow at intermediate energies. Other interests include: excitation energy sharing in damped heavy-ion reactions; the study of extremely proton-rich and neutron-rich nuclei near the limits of stability; characterizing the behavior of large atomic metal clusters.
