Purpose of job
To provide 20 hours per week part-time support to the Arts Program, initially, with the possibility of transition to full-time maternity cover from July through November 2016, subject to mutual agreement.
Context and environment
The Arts Team (Arts Manager and Arts Officer based in New York City) are charged with delivering a US-wide arts program. This post is part of the British Council USA team based within the British Consulate General in New York City. It sits alongside colleagues working across Education and Society and Global Partnership programs.
A separate non-profit Friends of the British Council receives and makes grants from within the US to support British Council work worldwide. This presents opportunities to generate new revenue streams to support the arts program in the US.
Accountabilities, responsibilities and main duties
To provide arts program support and administration including responding to internal and external enquiries, and managing internal processes including payments to ensure smooth delivery of projects.
Current work includes:
· a tour of a theater production by Touretteshero, a music program at ArsNova in Philadelphia, and a theatre production of Kaleider’s The Money at the Intl. Arts & Ideas Festival in New Haven.
· monitoring the program activities to capture evaluation data and storyboarding content.
· supporting multimedia content and digital content to increase audience reach and program profile.
Key relationships
Internal: British Council Global Arts Team, Americas regional Arts Team, and USA team
External: US arts professionals engaged with contemporary work from the UK that aligns with British Council USA Arts Program priorities; wider industry contacts including policy makers and other partners; British Embassy and its Consulate network

Skills and Knowledge / Excellent knowledge of US non-profit arts sector.
Professional arts administration experience in the non-profit sector.
Professional and creative use of digital media platforms and applications
Ability to use a range of non-standard approaches to inform both internal and external contacts

Works as an advanced practitioner in the use of office software and/or British Council standard and social media platforms and trains or coaches others in their use.
Managing Projects – level 1
