Role Profile: Internship - Higher Education Student Engagement and Employability Officer

Salary: c. £17,067 - £18,555 per annum, points 12-15 on the harmonised scale

Accountable to:HE Business Manager

Primary Purpose:Working as part of the College Higher Education Team, the primary role of this post is to support student engagement, experience and employability activity across the Higher Education provision in the college.

This role involves a considerable amount of communication and relationship building activity with prospective and current students, industrial partners, alumni, tutors and professional services colleagues both within the College and externally.

Location: ncn College sites; External venues

Overview of responsibilities

Student Engagement:

•Promotion - work to promote the curriculum offer to prospective students to support recruitment of students.

This will include and not be limited to

-Delivering progression workshops to internal and external students

-Facilitating taster sessions

-Building relationships with schools and careers services

•Student Community and Voice – work with students to develop a College wide student community and support the process in which students work together with tutors and professional services staff to contribute to the development of the College environment, so that students can make the most of their educational, employability and extra-curricular opportunities

•Student Projects – work with students on student led projects and initiatives to support quality improvement and student experience

•NSS - work with the HE Office, tutors and central marketing to promote student engagement with the NSS and other student surveys

•Work with students to embed and engage them with HE quality processes working towards the QAA codes and HER

Employability:

•Organise opportunities for students to meet graduate employers (careers fairs, employer presentations)

•Develop and maintain relationships with graduate employers including the maintenance of anemployer database and promote these opportunities to students

•Develop and maintain a range of relevant resources that will support students’ progression to employment, or further study, and signpost students to them

•Maintain the ‘work placement provider database’ as a resource for students to support them in finding relevant placements

•Support students in exploring and developing entrepreneurial activities

•Support the HE Business Manager in planning, implementing, reporting and analysing initiatives relating to the Destination of Leavers from Higher Education survey (DLHE) survey

Communications and Support

•Provide guidance and support for learners and liaise with students with low attendance

•Act as the first point of contact for all external enquiries, responding promptly and in a customer-focussed manner, passing on information to colleagues where appropriate

•Lead on the creation of into the HE student newsletter to ensure employability information and events are clearly displayed and reach the required audience

•Actively work with the student body and student union to understand what drives and interests the student body and how communication and engagement activities should best be developed to ensure maximum impact

•Review, update and maintain College webpages relating to employability, alumni and business engagement, including any internal online learning facilities connected to employability and higher education

•Collate and publish regular news stories for the College website and College newsletters

•Preparation of literature to support University level marketing activities as and when appropriate

General

•Respond to enquiries (in person, e-mail/letter or by telephone) from staff, students and visitors in a professional manner

•Demonstrate a professional appearance when representing the College at meetings and events

•Support the HE Business Manager with other projects as and when required

•Take a proactive approach to understanding our customers and how we can best meet their needs

•Work together in a mutually supportive way and towards shared priorities & strategic objectives

•Assist at College-wide events when required which will involve evening and weekend working
