Role Profile – Cleaner

Accountable to:Cleaning Managerand Team Leaders
Primary Purpose:Under the direction of the Team Leader or Charge Hand you will perform a full range of cleaning duties (internal and external) and report faults, potential hazards and incidents, to provide a clean, safe and positive learning and working environment for all building users, including students, staff and visitors. You will be highly motivated and committed, with a flexible approach to work.
Location: All ncn college campuses or one main campus if specified
Overview of responsibilities:
Maintain the overall cleanliness of a specified area to agreed standards and as allocated by the Team Leader or Charge Hand, this will include:
- Cleaning sanitary fixtures and fittings in toilets and changing rooms to include washbasins, male and female toilets, urinals and showers
- Cleaning offices, classrooms, laboratories, event areas, stairs, corridors, entrances etc.
- High and low dusting (using both damp and dry dusting methods) desks, chairs, PCs, ledges, edges, sills etc
- Vacuuming hard and soft floors and vents/grills
- Mopping using dry and damp methods
- Scrubbing, polishing and/or buffing floors
- Shampooing of carpets using hot water extraction and bonneting
- Cleaning all internal glass, mirrors and all outwardly facing windows and doors
- Carry out occasional cleaning tasks to ensure Health & Safety standards are met. This may include clearing of bodily fluids, deep clean of toilets or offices, periodic cleans during holiday periods
- Report incidents, faults and potential hazards in line with Policies and Procedures.
- Follow safe working practice by complying with Policies and Procedures
- Specifically for the Afternoon Cleaner post – responsibilities for outside areas, grounds clearing, litter removal, cleaning duties whilst building still in use and preparation for morning cleans
Be flexible and transfer between areas/campuses as required
Keep management informed of any issues or problems that may arise e.g. damaged equipment
Ensure that current health and safety regulations and good working practices are observed in relation to health and safety at work
To be aware of health and safety issues and to take reasonable precautions to ensure the health and safety of yourself and other persons at all times
Assist in the overall maintenance of his or her buildings, including responsibility for; keys, building access/security, cleaning equipment, and materials
Take part in the annual appraisal and personal development planning process
To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Team Leader, Charge Hand or Cleaning Manager, consistent with the grade of the post

Person Specification
Essential
- Willingness to work towards NVQ Level 2or City & Guilds Cleaning/Caretaking or equivalent
- Cleaning in an industrial, education environment or other similar experience
- Ability to organise work to meet work targets within an allotted timescale, either by working in a team or by oneself
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students and public
- Ability to carry out vigorous work and to work for continuous periods in standing position
- Commitment to engage with and contribute actively to the aims and objectives of NCN Services and our customers
- Commitment to engagement in positive working relationships.
- Be willing to undertake any further training necessary to meet the requirements of the post
- Be willing to undertake training that would be commensurate with working in an educational establishment
- Good customer care skills
- Flexible approach to all tasks
