Role of Trustee Treasurer 2012 for One Spirit Interfaith Foundation

One Spirit Interfaith Foundation (OSIF)undertakes training of open-hearted men and women to serve people of all faiths and none in our diverse communities as ordained Interfaith Ministers. Our Ministers provide support to individuals and communities in the UK and abroad. OSIF is a registered charity and supports its student ministers in training and ministers after ordination to encourage further nurturing and growth.

Examples of the work our ministers perform include;

  • Performing services and ceremonies such as wedding funerals, naming and blessings to people from all beliefs and backgrounds
  • Undertaking support, chaplaincy and counselling of people in need, often following grief, loss or bereavement
  • Supporting communities via worship services and retreats to allow nurturing for those people seeking spiritual awareness or awakening
  • Delivering volunteer activities for good causes such as chaplaincy at the recent London 2012 Olympic Games
  • Having a local and national media presence to promote interconnectedness and global cooperation towards harmonious community living.

We are keen to recruit an experienced trustee in the role of Treasurer to join the Policy Board of our organisation. This consists of 5 other trustees, the Head of Faculty, Community Facilitator and Foundation Manager.

Duties include:

  1. Maintaining an independent view on OSIF accounts and budgets; alerting to potential problems at the earliest opportunity
  2. Supporting the Foundation Manager and Accounts Officer with budgetary queries and advice as required
  3. Reflecting on longer term investment arrangements e.g. deposit accounts, fundraising (both personal and corporate) and considering other ethical plans to raise finance for long term financial sustainability
  4. Authorising switching of funds between different accounts, as required, to fund day-to-day operational needs, in association with the Foundation Manager and Finance Officer
  5. Alerting the Policy Board to finance matters of potential concern during the financial year and during the process of preparing final accounts to an acceptable standard.

Person Specification

  1. Experience of board or committee membership, in a charitable, public sector or commercial organisation. This could for example include experience of being a school governor or committee member of a local group.
  2. A record of achievement in a financial role at leadership level in business, professional services, the public sector or voluntary sector
  3. Experience of treasury, risk and reserves management, audit and other corporate governance responsibilities
  4. An ability to work effectively as a member of a team while contributing an independent perspective
  5. A track record of contributing to and influencing the strategic direction of an organisation and an understanding of the wider economic environment and how this impinges on organisations
  6. An understanding of and a commitment to the values of not for profit organisations and One Spirit Interfaith Foundation in particular.

Also:

  1. An understanding of, and commitment to the values of One Spirit Interfaith Foundation, i.e. respect for all people no matter what race, faith, gender, age, sexual orientation or disability a person may present.
  2. A track record of being able to process detail and get to the heart of an issue
  3. A willingness to devote the time and effort required to effectively discharge the duties of this role
  4. A willingness to undertake training as might be required.
