Volunteer Role Description

Role:Dining Room Assistant

Role Purpose:To serve the 3 course dinners to our service users carrying plates on the trays from the hatch to the tables. You will be working in a team of 2 to 3 people serving anything up to 50 lunches a day.

Accountable To:Volunteer Co-ordinator

Tasks and Activities

Serving mealsTo ensure that service users are served the meals hot by going to the hatch and getting the required number of lunches plated up. Serve one row of tables and clear between each course. Good communication with service users and kitchen staff is required.

Preparation andTo get the trays out of the coffee chop cabinet and wear appropriate

Cleaningclothing (aprons). At the end of the serving, clear tables ensuring any dirty cloths are put in the laundry basket, unused cutlery also needs to be washed, condiments and flower vases are to be put away.

Health and SafetyAvoid trips and falls when carrying trays. Move any items that are obstructing the aisle. Use a clean apron every time you serve lunch. Follow all food hygiene rules.

To be aware of correct dress code i.e. flat covered shoes

TrainingTo undergo appropriate training as required.

Working PracticesTo become familiar with all Age UKOadby and Wigston policies and practices as described in the volunteers induction handbook.
