ROLE DESCRIPTION & PERSON SPECIFICATION

Role: Dairy Process Operator

Location: Magheralin, Craigavon, Co. Armagh

Role Purpose: The efficient and safe production, packing and labelling of cheese and related products, in accordance with PSOP’s and daily make plans.

Responsible for: Compliance with PSOPs and safe working practices. By monitoring product and process performance and carrying out all necessary quality tests, make appropriate process and quality adjustments to ensure product compliance with internal and external standards. Effectively communicate with all appropriate personnel within your sphere of responsibility.

Reports to: Departmental Supervisor/Team Leader

Key Relationships: Team leaders, Managers, team members in own and related departments, QA and maintenance personnel, external approved contractors.

Responsibilities:

Health and Safety:

·  Perform your role exactly as stated in the relevant standard operating procedure (PSOP)

·  Maintain focus on workplace safety, ensuring all activities are carried out in accordance with safe working procedures

·  Observe, act and immediately report any issues that may pose a threat to a safe working environment

·  Ensure that the circumstances of any accidents or incidents are immediately reported to your Team Leader, recorded in detail and that any supporting documentation is completed promptly.

·  Participate fully in safety tours, hazard identification tasks and risk assessments when requested to do so by your Team Leader.

Communication:

·  Contribute to effective team handover by relaying all information on the day’s activity to the next shift operator

·  Maintain communication with the QA staff regarding testing methods, requirements and standards and with all appropriate departments to ensure any potential issues are highlighted and addressed at the earliest opportunity

·  Contribute to speedy and accurate diagnosis and repair of faults by ensuring maintenance staff receive full and complete information in relation to any breakdowns

·  During and following periods of equipment breakdown or production of non-conforming product, contribute fully in 5-Why investigation sessions to determine the root cause of the problem.

·  Ensure timely and accurate records are maintained of all operational and quality parameters and any non-conforming results are acted upon immediately. If appropriate action does not correct the non-conformance in a timely manner, then this must be reported immediately to your Team Leader

·  Participate in regular one to one meetings with your Team Leader

Quality:

·  Ensure all Personal Protective clothing and equipment is worn in accordance with company policy.

·  Maintain a high standard of hygiene and housekeeping within your work area

·  Monitor product and process on an on-going basis and perform all appropriate on-line quality tests. Take prompt action (seeking guidance where appropriate) in response to maintaining ‘in spec’ product.

·  Obtain product samples for micro and chemistry testing as requested by your Team Leader

·  Ensure that all food safety and CCP procedures called out in the PSOP are observed and report any issues to your Team Leader that may constitute a hygiene or safety risk

Environmental:

·  Ensure that accidental spillages to floor/drain are minimised, and where these may occur, that you participate fully in the completion of a spillage investigation report and that you participate fully and promptly in the implementation of a remedial action plan.

·  Separate and dispose of waste in accordance with recycling requirements

·  continually monitor detergent strength with a view to minimising usage whilst still achieving satisfactory cleaning standards

·  Ensure all potential issues that may contribute to potential environmental breaches are highlighted as soon as possible to the Site Services Manager

·  Be aware of the 7 Environmental targets and objectives for your department and understand how you can influence these in a positive manner.

Other Responsibilities

·  Undertake any other tasks to successfully fulfil the duties of the role

·  Undertake training in new methods and refresher training in existing methods where competency assessment by your Team Leader deems it appropriate

·  Undertake cross training between roles as deemed appropriate by your Team Leader

·  Participate in the training and competency assessment of others

Role Specific Departmental Responsibilities

Packing

·  Assist QA operators in product release / hold duties when requested by your Team Leader.

·  Required to work within high and low care production areas

·  Use of HMI (Human Machine Interface) data systems for operation of equipment

·  Regular wash, clean downs of equipment s to ensure required hygiene standards

·  Dissembling equipment, placing items in COP (clean off Place) tank and hosing and foaming all other equipment and area which requires working with chemicals, high noise levels and humid conditions

·  Will be required to cover in all areas of production/processing areas as and when required by the business.

·  Carry out and comply with all company policies, procedures and instructions and any other reasonable duties deemed necessary by the company.

Technological developments and changes to customer specifications mean that processes and their associated tasks and functions do not remain static. In order to remain flexible, responsive and competitive, the Company reserves the right to adapt roles and responsibilities in response to operational changes and there is a reasonable expectation of adaptation to new or modified working methods as required.

Job Requirements / Physically capable of regularly handling up to 10kg boxes and lifting up to 25kg weight where required.
A level of agility is required to permit access to all areas of plant and equipment.
Qualifications

Experience / Minimum of 6 months relevant work experience within a production or manufacturing environment / Relevant experience in food / dairy manufacturing and production
