Rocket Sports Information Week 7 Review

Rocket Nation is wrapping up our Fall Sports. Last weekend many of us went out to Shawnee and watched our Volleyball team compete in the State Finals. And that was very exciting. In the last 3 years semifinalist, runner up and State Champ.

So let’s do some recaps and let’s keep rolling BIG BLUE!!!

Volleyball

On Saturday 10 October Rocket Volleyball lost in the State Semifinal against CHA 3-1 after an opening round win against Catoosa Friday afternoon. I think that Coach Jekel says it best in her end of season email to her parents that I wanted to share with you.

COACH JEKEL SAYS

I realize we are just a few hours removed from our semi-final match today but feel it’s very important to let each and every one of you know how much I appreciate all that you have done for our program this season. The time, the meals, the special surprises and all the many small things you do for our program means so much to our coaching staff and all of our girls.

We have truly accomplished so much as a team this season! We have laughed and cried together. We have had highs and lows, but through it all we have hung together like a family. On top of all of that we won 28 matches, won the Lincoln Christian Tournament and the Conference tournament. Our freshman and Junior Varsity programs won the majority of their games and all of those home matches were announced along with the varsity matches. So much to be proud of as a Mount Volleyball family/team.

Thank you all again for a great season! We have a lot to be thankful for. I'm excited to watch our girls the remainder of the school year in all of their other Mount sports and activities. We will be sending out another message next week about our end of the season team party.

Coach Jekel

And Coach Jekel and staff thank you for all of your dedication and hard work. Mount St. Mary is truly blessed to have you all here coaching our kids.

Football

Rocket Football travelled to Meeker last Thursday during Fall Break and competed extremely well in a hard fought game. The Rockets were tied at the half 21-21 before losing 41-28. The Rocket touchdowns were scored by Archie Browne, Chris Robinson, and two from Stuart Mayfield. Archie and Chris both rushed for over 100 yards each (103 and 104 respectively). While Jimmy Turner lead the defense with 16 tackles. The Tony Sellers Rocket Radio West Point Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram Offensive and Defensive Players of the game were Brooks Sherman and Dylan Faires respectively.

COACH PERKINS SAYS

That Meeker game was a tough one. Our team was in it until the end. Thanks to all the students who came out to Meeker during Fall Break to support our team. Rocket Football travels to Bethany next Friday night as we take on the Broncos. Hope to see you all there.

Here is another great production from Shana Turner from the Meeker game. Enjoy and thanks Shana.

CROSS COUNTRY

Cross Country boys and girls captured third this past weekend down in Regionals at Velma Alma. Both teams advance to State this weekend out in Shawnee.

REGIONAL SUMMARY

Rocket Ladies

Overall 3rd Place Finish (going to State!).

Medalist – Gabby Sanderson earned a gold (top 5) Regional Medal by finishing 4th overall. Gabby ran a negative split again and set a PR. Her time is one of the top 5, two-mile times in MSM Lady Rocket history.

Kylie Dowers was Miss Dependable again, finishing second for the team and just out of the medals at 17th. Right behind her was Rachel Parizek (aka Mom) in 18th place and tying her PR. Reagan Ingram and Mikaela Stine (with a PR) ensured our state entry by finishing solidly in 22nd and 24th. Alicia Cornelius (also a PR) and Marian Sorrels finished out the top 7 by placing 47th and 48th.

Plainview was hard to beat (Gabby broke up their perfect score) but it was close for 2nd and 3rd with Madill. There was a large gap between us and 4th place.

Rocket Men

Overall 3rd Place Finish (going to State!).

Medalists

- Bennett Barnett picked up a gold (top 5) Regional Medal for finishing in 5th place.

- Garrett Kinsey picked up a silver (top 10) Regional Medal for finishing in 9th place.

Christian Yabut had a superb effort (freshman) finishing in 20th place, followed closely by Chris Ooley in 26th place. Nick Parizek was our 5th runner with a 30th place finish, followed closely by Caleb Sanderson in 31st place. Ryan Baker finished in 48th. Good effort by all on a tough course.

COACH RUPEL SAYS

We are all proud of your accomplishment, especially having to compete one division up. This was a tough course so I was surprised at some of the PRs. We did not train for hills like this so you all ran exceptionally well. The Lady Rockets did the big hill once but the Rocket Men did the big hill twice so this was NOT a day for PRs. Even then, you ran great races.

This week we will just do a “tune up” for the week and be ready to run on Saturday at the Gordon Vo Tech Center in Shawnee, a course you are familiar with and a course that usually yields personal records. I want everyone to just relax and not stress this week. Let’s just go out there and race for the sake of racing. Don’ worry about your competition. Just focus on running intelligently the first half of the race and then giving it your all the last half of the race. The competition is really against yourself. So relax this week and learn something new about yourself and running.

SO ROCKET NATION UNTIL NEXT WEEK…..GO BIG BLUE AND FLY ROCKETS FLY!!!!!
