Graduate Assistant Opening

Internship Description:
The successful candidate for this position must be able to perform the following:

  • Work on projects as assigned by the management team as requested.
  • Work on projects as assigned by other Career Services Coordinators including support for programming, job development and job and career-related research.
  • Be an effective team player and willing to assist in planning and executing various office activities and events such as the Graduate School Fair, theFall and Spring Career Fairs, seminars and other career-related programs.
  • Must be able to multi-task and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Effectively able to work and learn how to operate office technology for tasks related to Simplicity, Job Zone or placement of students for full-time or co-op positions.
  • Above average written and verbal communications skills to effectively reach out to employers via email, or phone to acquire information about their recruiting needs, including co-op, intern or full time positions they may have available.
  • Interested and skilled in conducting research using job search engines such as LinkedIn, Indeed.com, or by looking directly on company websites to source employment opportunities for co-op, intern and full-time positions.
  • Meet with students for resume, cover letter writing, LinkedIn profile assistanceand critique when needed.
  • Participate in staff meetings and on service teams when possible.
  • Work days and hours for this position are at the discretion of the candidate and direct supervisor; a minimum of 10-15 hours per week is preferred.
  • This position is reserved for candidates seeking academic credit for their degree program requirements and is an unpaid opportunity.
  • The position will begin in late September 2015 for 3, 6 or 9 months, to be mutually determined based on the availability of the candidate.

Requirements: Candidate must have the following:

  • Must be enrolled in graduate level program inHuman Resources, Higher Education, Counseling, Student Affairs, College Student Personnel Administration or similar discipline.
  • Must be in good academic standing to apply and remainin good academic standing while completing internship.
  • Must have basic computer proficiencies such as Microsoft Office.
