RMG Physician Director (PPD) (Rev. January 9, 2009)

Position Summary:

The RMG Physician Practice Director provides physician leadership for one or more geographic practice locations for the Riverside Medical Group. The PPD helps facilitate delivery of medical care at the practice site, the management of clinicians at that location (in one or more specialties), the quality of care provided, and the smooth and effective operation of the practice. The PPD works collaboratively with the practice manager, other physician members of the practice, and RMG management team.

Reporting and Accountability:

The RMG PPD reports directly to the RMG Medical Director to whom he is accountable for the performance of his duties. The PPD works with the Service Line Chief(s) that covers those specialties present in the practice location overseen by the PPD.

Responsibilities:

1)Ensure that essential communications from the Service Line Administrators and Chiefs and the RMG Medical Director and COO and CFO reach the practice physicians.

2)Leads regularly scheduled provider meetings.

3)Receive and initially address problems or complaints as brought up by practice physicians. Pass these issues to the Service Line Chief when necessary or to the RMG Medical Director as appropriate or if there is no applicable Service Line Chief.

4)Provide the initial intervention with practice physicians for in-office behavior and performance concerns. Refer these issues to the Service Line Chief when necessary or to the RMG Medical Director if there is no Service Line Chief.

5)Work collaboratively with the practice manager and RMG Risk Manager to address staff or patient complaints as appropriate.

6)Assist in orienting and mentoring new physicians.

7)Working with the other providers in the practice, make recommendations for practice development and strategy.

8)Work with the practice manager, and practice director or service line administratorwhere applicable to implement staffing and operational changes as appropriate.

9)Work with the practice manager torequest that specificfinancial reports are available to practice physicians.

10)Role model compliance with expectations that have been established for RMG practitioners, including adherence to the RMG Physician Compact.

11) Collaborate with RMG quality and performance improvement efforts, utilization management initiatives, and any credentialing/privileging and peer review activities which may be developed on an outpatient basis.

12)Attend periodic operational and educational meetings for RMG PPDs and other RMG staff.

Qualifications, Experience and Appointment:

RMG Physician Practice Directors will be appointed by the RMG Medical Director in consultation with the RMG COO and the appropriate Service Line Chief(s).

PPDs must be recognized as high quality practitioners who are committed to the goals and mission of RMG and have been consistent in their adherence to the responsibilities of RMG members, including compliance with the RMG Physician Compact. They should have some experience or training in the management of peers or a willingness to engage in such training or education. PPDs should be good communicators and collaborators who can role model and support team efforts to deliver high quality care in an efficient manner.

Term of Appointment:

RMG PPDs will serve until they resign or are asked to resign by the RMG Medical Director.
