Making a book proposal to the ECPR Press

About the ECPR Press

The ECPR Press (published in partnership with Rowman & Littlefield International) welcomes new book proposals.

The ECPR Press publishes original research from leading political scientists and the best among early career researchers in the discipline. Its scope extends to all fields of political science, international relations and political thought, without restriction in either approach or regional focus. It is also open to interdisciplinary work with a predominant political dimension.

Monographs

Proposals for single or co-authored books are encouraged from both established political scientists and early career researchers. This also includes essay volumes bringing together new or previously published work on a particular theme. The series further welcomes proposals for translations of published monographs by well-established scholars currently unavailable in English; or contextualised re-publications of classic books in the field that are no longer available in print. All monograph proposals should make a new empirical and/or theoretical contribution to the discipline.

Studies in European Political Science

Proposals are invited for high-quality, edited volumes on topics at the cutting edge of current political science and political thinking. All volumes should be research-based and offer new perspectives, with contributions from leading scholars working in the relevant fields. Volumes may have originated from ECPR events including the Joint Sessions of Workshops or General Conference.

Submitting a proposal

Please email the completed proposal form (below) and sample material to

Review process

The proposal and sample text will be assessed by the Press Editors. If they feel the book has potential, the proposal will be sent for peer review by up to three external academics. The Press aims to complete the review process within three months of receipt of the proposal but this can take longer depending upon the availability of suitable reviewers. Anonymous reviews will be sent to the proposing author(s)/editor(s), who will be invited to comment on the issues raised. A modification of the original proposal might then be required, which in some cases may result in a further external assessment of either the proposal or the manuscript.

If the review is positive, the proposal may be accepted for publication, at which stage authors are offered a contract. The decision to support publication is taken by the ECPR Press Editors.

Contracts offered on the basis of a proposal and sample chapters are subject to confirmation on the delivery of the final manuscript, which needs to reflect what was promised in the proposal. The final assessment will be made bythe Press Editors and may be subject to further external review.

Submitting your manuscript

Once an agreement has been reached, authors/editors will receive instructions on house style and the preparation of manuscripts for submission.
