Tribute to Basie Honor MS/Jr.H. Jazz Ensemble
Grades 7 and 8
Auditions: April 5, Friday evening, Riverside Campus in the Stover Building
5:00pm-7:00pm, 1ST COME 1ST SERVE! We will have multiple audition rooms again this year.
Rehearsals: Thursday, May 2, 5:00pm-7:00 Riverside Campus in Stover 118
Friday, May 3, 5:00pm-7:00 Riverside Campus in Stover 118
Sunday, May 5, 2:45-3:15 RCC Digital Library Auditorium
Concert: Sunday, May 6, 4:00pm, RCC Digital Library Auditorium with the
RCC Day Jazz Ensemble & Ellington HS Band
Audition Information
Wind players (trumpet, saxophones and trombones), Guitars, Pianists and mallet players should be prepared to play the following:
1. Major scales from 2 sharps to 2 flats
2. Four (Jazz song by Miles Davis, found in the Miles Davis Aebersold, a fake book or at http://www.rccjazz.com/honorbands.html).
2. (Optional) A jazz tune of their choice or an excerpt from a jazz band chart
3. (Optional) Solo improvisation to the blues in F, C, or Bb concert
4. Drummers should be prepared to play swing time at quarter = 60 and 120, Bossa Nova at 120 and Rock at 120.
5. Rhythm section players should be able to “comp” or play a walking bass line to the chord changes of Blues in F, C or Bb.

Other Information The concert will be in the Digital Library Auditorium on the RCC Riverside Campus, dress will be jacket and tie for the men and appropriate dress for the young ladies.
There is no audition fee, those selected will have a $25 participation fee & in return will receive a T-shirt and a compact disc of the concert.
