In order to ensure that Credit Unions throughout Tobago are managed effectively, particularly in light of the impending changes to the Credit Union Act, the Trinidad and Tobago Credit Stabilization fund Cooperative Society is hosting a two day seminar at the Mt. Irvine Bay Hotel.

Participants were taught the principles and practices of cooperative philosophy, understanding financial statements, and wealth creation.

President of the Trinidad and Tobago Credit Union Stabilization Fund Cooperative Society, Dr. Anthony Elias explained that his organization provides deposit insurance for Credit Unions and their members.

He added that the Stabilization Fund was formed in 1999 and that since 2000 they have been conducting training sessions geared towards the proper management of Credit Unions.

Dr. Elias went to outline several issues regarding the changes to the new Credit Union Policy Document that were Proposed by the Central Bank earlier this year. He said these are serious cause for concern to credit union members.

World Food Day Celebrations – Pkg

Just three weeks after World Food Day 2009 celebrations in Tobago, the farmers reaped the fruits of their labour on Sunday evening at the prize giving ceremony. Secretary for the Division of Agriculture, Hilton Sandy shared his dream of Tobago’s agriculture sector increasing its food production capabilities to supply Tobago’s population and other countries. He also noted that World Food Day celebrations are not just about the competition but collaboration.

Farmers were then presented with their prizes for the best livestock, produce and even preservatives. However the most anticipated prize was the Tobago Best Farmer Competition. For large scale crops: Orwin Dillion took the coveted top spot while Duane Dove and Melvin Dubrie took the second and third spots respectively. In small-scale crops: In first place was Garfield Small, second was Curtis Grant and in third place Errol Orr. In the mixed farming category, Sean Baldeo took the top spot while the second and third spots went to Francis Forbes and Alexander Thomas. Small Scale Livestock first place prize went to June Mc Eachnie while Elrod Baynes and Christian Caines took the second and third spots respectively. Other prizes included the Best Depiction of the theme, The Most Entrepreneurial District Booth and the Best Overall District Booth went to Charlotteville.

The West Indians will be able to forget their off-field worries when they open their tour with a four-day match against Queensland TODAY.

One of the new faces expected to be on show at the Allan Border Field is upcoming star batsman Adrian Barath, an uncapped 19-year-old opener. Barath is likely to open with Chris Gayle in what is effectively a trial for the opening Test at the Gabba on November 26. Barath, who is from right here in T&T was part of the team's strong showing in the Champions League Twenty20, but he will have to lift his standards to cope against the Australians..
