Rinehard’s Rising Stars

Kindergarten News

October 26, 2015

Dear Parents,

The students are so excited about Halloween! Students in our school are permitted to dress like a favorite book character on Friday. Students are NOT permitted to wear costume makeup, scary costumes, see through costumes or wear anything that could interfere with learning (ex. wings, huge costumes, masks etc.). They will be wearing their costumes all day.

Red Ribbon Week is this week. You should have received a letter from PTO regarding the events. Students are encouraged to wear red tomorrow, bright colors on Wednesday, crazy hair on Thursday, and dress like a literary character on Friday. FUN!

The Family Breakfast is this week too. I hope that you have your reservations. Families with last names A – L come on Tuesday from 7:00 – 9:00 am. Families from M – Z come on Wednesday from 7:00 – 9:00 am. Be sure to take a tour of our school and stop by our classroom – room 133. We look forward to meeting family members!

The Scholastic Book Fair is this week too. Students may purchase books during our library time on Tuesday. Please send money in an envelope with your child’s name and book choices.

We will be reading fiction and nonfiction books about pumpkins and fall this week. We’ll sequence the stages of a pumpkin. We’ll use the donated pumpkins for several math activities. We could still use more pumpkins for our lessons. Thanks for sending them in! We will also focus on letter Mm, and continue to try and decode short vowel words. We’ll read Bear Snores On and focus on realism and fantasy.

If you read the book from the baggie each day to your child, then your child will receive a Pizza Hut “Book-It” coupon at the end of the month. Later in November students will begin bringing home readers to read with and to you. Students will also earn coupons for reading these books.

We would like to have “Apple Tasting Time” on Friday. Please see the insert in the folder.

Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on November 18th and 19th. Please see the letter regarding sign-ups in your child’s folder.

Mrs. Porter, our school nurse, wants to remind you that all kindergarten students need a vision and dental exam by January 1, 2016. If you have any questions or need forms, please call Mrs. Porter at 441-9174.

Please make sure your child keeps an extra change of clothes in their backpack if he/she is likely to have an accident. Make sure the clothes are appropriate for the season.

Many students continue to leave jackets in our classroom. Put your child’s name in all jackets and coats. We try to go outside to play if the temperature is above 32 degrees. Make sure your child dresses appropriately.

We had three days of perfect attendance last week. Great! Please be on time to school each day. It really makes a difference! I know it can be a challenge as I have to get three girls out the door by 7:00 each morning. I really appreciate it when kids are on time to school.

Nicholas was our “Student of the Week.” His favorite color is red. His favorite food is spaghetti and meatballs. He likes to go to Lake Barkley with his family. Nicholas wants to be a firefighter when he grows up.

School will not be in session on Monday, November 2nd and Tuesday, November 3rd. Take your child with you as you vote! Enjoy the long weekend! I won’t be sending a newsletter home next week due to the short week.

Thursday, November 5 – Picture Retake Day and Math and Science Night 6:00
