Job Title: Legal Officer (Family Law)

Salary: £10,211 Gross Pay per annum [pro rata to length of post]

[FTE £31,647 per annum]

Conditions: 10.5 hours per week (1 ½ days)

Holiday entitlement: Pro rata of FTE 25 days annual leave plus public holidays.

Location: Rights of Women, 52-54 Featherstone Street, LondonEC1Y 8RT

Responsible to: Director of Rights of Women

Line Manager:Senior Legal Officer (Family and Criminal)

Duration:Fixed term post until 30th September 2017, with possibility of extension

Pension – general note for financial year 2017/18: Rights of Womenwill be providing a workplace pension scheme (as part of its auto enrolment duties) from 1st May 2017. Eligible employees will be enrolled into this scheme or can proceed with an existing qualifying scheme. Eligible employees will be expected to make a minimum 1% employee earnings contribution towards their chosen scheme up to 05.04.18. ROW will match the employee contribution up to a maximum of 3% during this period. Employee minimum contributions will rise after this in line with conditions set by the Government. Summary of post

The Legal Officer (Family law) is responsible for delivery of Rights of Women’s core services including providing legal advice on our telephone advice lines, delivering training and writing publications. She also contributes to Rights of Women’s policy work. It is anticipated this post will focus primarily on providing support to women, mostly face-to-face,to make Exceptional Case Funding (ECF) applications.

Key tasks and responsibilities

The post holder is expected to carry out the following duties;

Provide confidential and quality legal advice to women on our telephone advice lines

Provide assistance to women to make Exceptional Case Funding (Family Law) applications

Assist with the administration of advice services and volunteer legal advisors

Prepare and deliver training courses, seminars, workshops and conferences

Represent Rights of Women at meetings, seminars and conferences

Keep abreast of developments and changes in the legal system

Research and write legal materialsfor and on behalf of Rights of Women

Contribute to and write policy submissions on behalf of Rights of Women

Assist in research projects and reports on a range of legal and policy issues affecting women

Respond to requests from the media

General

Attend staff, strategy and other Rights of Women meetings

Attend supervision sessions with the Senior Legal Officer

Attend reflective practice sessions

Adhere to and work within Rights of Women’s policies and procedures

Work within the budgetary constraints set in accordance with Rights of Women’s financial regulations

Undertake such other reasonable tasks as requested by the Director
