Rice Engineering Scholarship

Introduction:

The Rice Engineering Scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to one area high school senior per year who plans to enter the structural engineering field. The scholarship includes a $3,000 cash award to be disbursed in $1,000 increments in each of the first three years of attendance at a college or university. The applicant must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment to receive the award.

Student Requirements:

  1. Must be a graduating senior from any high school in Kewaunee, Door, Brown or Manitowoc County.
  1. Must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an ABET accredited engineering program.
  1. Must submit a typewritten scholarship application directly to the Office Manager at Rice Engineering prior to 5:00 P.M. on April 6, 2018.
  1. Must provide a copy of most recent high school transcript.
  1. If selected as a finalist the student must be willing to participate in a face-to-face selection interview at the Rice Engineering office in Luxemburg, WI.

Selection:

The Rice Engineering Scholarship Committee will make the selection based on:

1. Academic Achievement.

  1. Participation in School and Community activities.
  1. Financial Need.
  1. Future Career Goals
  1. Applicant should list any coursework or workshop that he/she had in the area of engineering, math or science. Please emphasize any AP courses that were taken.
  1. Applicant should list any specific personal experience that he/she may have had that is related to the engineering field. This could include work experiences or knowledge obtained through family or friends. Any type of construction experience is relevant. Also, list any related job shadowing experience.

Contingencies

  1. The applicant that is chosen will receive the first installment of the award after successfully completing their first semester in a structural engineering path of study.
  1. The second and third installments of the award will be released after the applicant has completed the first and second year of study respectively and has provided to the Office Manager at Rice Engineering their most recent grade report and their course schedule for the first semester of the coming year. The student must maintain a 2.75 cumulative grade point average and must be continuing in the structural engineering program.
