Revised Schedule for Essay #4, Essay #5, and Portfolio Submission:
Peer Review for Essay #4 and Submission of Essay #4: You have two options for completing the peer review requirement (regular and electronic) and submitting Essay #4:
OPTION 1: You will bring four copies of your rough draft of Essay #4 to class on Monday, Nov. 26 and participate in the peer review session in class that day, completing and returning peer reviews of at least two of your peers’ drafts of Essay #4 (three or more for extra credit, as long as the feedback on the drafts is comprehensive). You will submit Essay #4 on Wednesday, Nov. 28 and conference with me on the date you signed up for on the conference schedule.
OPTION 2: Electronic: You will exchange email addresses with several of your peers who commit to finishing their rough drafts of Essay #4 and emailing them to you no later than midnight on Wednesday, November 21 (or a later date if it is mutually agreed upon). You will follow the peer review instructions, utilize either Track Changes (by going to Tools, then Track Changes, which will insert your comments in red on your peers’ drafts) or some other editing technique (such as typing your comments in all capital letters), and then you will email these peer reviewed essays back to your peers, as well as email a copy of all peer reviewed drafts to me so that I can assess them and give you a peer review grade. (The minimum requirement is two reviewed drafts; three or more will earn extra credit, as long as the feedback on the drafts is comprehensive.)
You MUST email peer reviewed drafts back to your peers in a timely fashion (within a mutually agreed upon time frame); otherwise, you will NOT receive credit for the peer reviews. After all, you peers must have time to utilize your comments and revise their Essay #4 drafts accordingly before the due date of Essay #4. You will NOT be required to attend class and take part in the peer review session for Essay #4 on Monday, Nov. 26; instead, you may submit your final version of Essay #4 to me on that day (Nov. 26) and conference with me then (in MBBM 113), thus having extra time to work on your portfolio; or, you may opt not to attend class on Nov. 26, in which case you would schedule a conference on Essay #4 for a later date, and submit your Essay #4 on Wednesday, Nov. 28, the due date.
Essay #5 and Portfolio Submission:
On Wednesday, Dec. 5, Essay #5 is due (unless you receive an extension); all changes from Essays #3 and #4 must be highlighted, and the essay must also be submitted to My Drop Box); in addition, on Dec. 5 the Portfolio is due unless you receive an extension. You must include revisions of Essays #1, #2, #3, and #4; follow the directions in your syllabus. If you choose, you may submit Essay #5 and the portfolio early and attend an early conference with me, in which case you would not have to attend class on Dec. 5.
PLEASE NOTE: After Nov. 19, there will be only three more mandatory class sessions this semester: Monday, Nov. 26 (MBBM 113); Wednesday, Dec. 5 (MBBM 113); and Friday, Dec. 14 (COMM 205, Final Exam—Essay #6); on all other class days I will be conducting one-on-one conferences with students. Attendance on Friday lab days, Nov. 30 and Dec. 7, is optional.
