Guidelines for this Assessment

The purpose of this evaluation is intended to give the intern feedback about her/his performance. Completion of this form should be a shared process. Although the field instructor is responsible for completing the evaluation, this is the opportunity for the student and field instructor to discuss similarities and differences in perception. Prior to the completion of the evaluation the field instructor and student should have a discussion of the student’s progress during the semester.

It is the responsibility of the faculty field liaison (course instructor) to assign the field grade. The grade for field is based on the faculty field liaison’s overall evaluation of the student performance which is based on the field instructor evaluation and classroom discussion of field. The field grades are fail, pass and high pass.

The standard by which an intern is to be compared is that of a new beginning-level social worker. The 10 competencies in this evaluation form have been established by the Council on Social Work Education, the accrediting organization for BSW programs. Each competency category includes related practice behaviors for beginning generalist social workers (a range of micro, mezzo and macro skills to work with a system of any size).
