Suggested areas for investigation.
The Stores
• The number and size of outlets
• Type of outlet e.g. Department store, Multiple chain, Independent.
• Location, say how you rate its position and why. Is it in an advantageous location?
• Store layout. How effective is it?
The Customer
• Who is the target customer? Whom are they aiming to sell to? Describe the customer type(s) as fully as possible. Why do you think this?
• How frequently do they make a purchase?
• Why do they come to buy from this particular outlet?
The Offer
• Analyse the merchandise each store is offering. E.g., Range? Choice? Price? Value?
• Assess the level of customer services in the store.
• Assess the presentation of the total offer
• What is the image of the store?
Overall
• Your assessment of the overall provision of the product range in Bournemouth
• Identify where there are gaps in the market.
• Criticisms of the individual stores. Where do you believe that this store falls short of meeting the needs of its target customer? Where is it doing a good job? What improvements would you suggest?
Points to bear in mind
You need to set group objectives;
What questions do you want to answer?
What is the best way of achieving this?
We want YOUR opinion, and we want to know WHY you think that.
Be careful to ANALYSE and ASSESS, do not simply describe what you see.
Be CRITICAL about everything that you see, do not just accept it.
