Level 3 Assistant
Responsible to: Playgroup Manager and Management Committee
Job Purpose: Assisting Playgroup Manager and team in the day to day running of the playgroup
Main Duties:
- Interact and play with children
- Assist in drawing up curriculum plans for children, following discussion with playgroup staff team
- Be responsible as a key person for a group of children, ensuring observations and records kept on children are up to date
- Attend information sharing meetings with parents/carers
- Liaise and encourage parent/carer involvement, offering support, advice and signpost where necessary
- Maintain confidentiality at all times
- Liaise with outside agencies
- To be flexible, responsible and caring at all times, providing a positive role model for other members of staff and children.
- Assist to ensure the environment and equipment is safe and standards of hygiene are high.
- Ensure safety procedures for children and staff are practiced at all times and fire drills are regularly carried out.
- Assist in the review of policies and procedures on a regular basis
- Attend identified training
- Attend team meetings
- Assist with ensuring daily staff checks have been completed, reporting to manager any necessary action required.
- Recognise children as individuals, ensuring their needs are recognised and met
- Observe and record children’s developmental progress ensuring that they are recorded in accordance with policy and procedure
- To be aware of special educational needs and ensure staff support these children effectively
- To keep informative, accurate and up to date records including records of progress and developmental records.

Post Level 3 Assistant
Essential / DesirableEducation and Training /
- Level 3 qualification in Childcare and Education (0-8 Years)
- First Aid
- Up to date safeguarding training
- Food Hygiene
Experience /
- Experience of working with children and their families
- Planning, developing, monitoring and evaluating a curriculum
- Post qualification experience
Abilities and Knowledge /
- To have knowledge and understanding of providing high quality child care and education in line with EYFS.
- An enthusiastic approach to working with 2-5 years
- Interact and play with children
- Ability to role model good practice in early years
- Ability to work in partnership with outside agencies
- Awareness and understanding of diversity issues
- Recognise that parents/carers are the main educators
- Knowledge of compliance to Ofsted registration
- Knowledge of the Every Child Matters Outcomes
- Knowledge of SEN code of practice
- Conversant with current legislation relevant to Early Years
Skills /
- Good communications skills
