Job Title:Cleaner

Department: Facilities

Responsible To:Head Cleaner (Line Manager)

Purpose:To clean and tidy areas of all Sheffield Theatres venues including the Lyceum and Crucible Theatres and Crucible Corner (a food and drinks outlet) to standards set by the Head Cleaners.

Key responsibilities:

  • To clean and tidy; foyer and bar areas, Crucible Corner and Caféto set standards of hygiene. Areas to include:
  • entrance areas, including stage door steps and entrance mats, foyer tables and ashtrays as required.
  • public access male, female and disabled toilets (including cleaning floors) restock with toilet paper and paper towels as required.
  • the auditoriums and foyers after performances clearing ice cream cartons, popcorn and at times clearing up after children have been sick.
  • Empty all bins and remove contents to loading bay.
  • Periodic in depth cleaning of toilets, chairs, walls etc.
  • Miscellaneous duties; removal of mess and graffiti from toilets, tidying up after minor floods etc.
  • Undertake cleaning in areas of the building open to the public.
  • At all times comply with the company’s rules and regulations, including the health and safety and equal opportunities policy and comply with health and safety legislation.

General

  • As a term of your employment you may also be asked to undertake other such appropriate duties as and when required, as well as being asked to work flexible hours to suit the operation of the organisation.

PERSON SPECIFICATION/ COMPETENCIES

Essential:

  • Must have a confident and capable manner in dealing with the public.
  • This is a manual job so you must be physically fit enough to carry out your daily tasks including good hand eye co-ordination and dexterity, lifting, operating cleaning equipment, regular and repetitive manual functions, bending, kneeling.
  • You must have good eyesight.
  • Must be at ease working in all areas of the theatre including at the high up steeply raked back of the balcony in the Lyceum auditorium.
  • A team-player who is personable and has the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels both internally and externally.
  • Experience of maintaining high standards of Health & Safety.
  • Able to speak and read English to ensure clear and safe working practices can be followed.
  • Committed, self motivated with good team work skills.
  • Must be flexible to cope with the hours that a theatre demands.
  • Able to clear up after children have been sick.
  • Good time-keeping.

Desirable:

  • Previous cleaning experience.

MAIN TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Pay:£8.75 per hour.Premium payment will be paid for hours worked on Sundays and Public Holidays.

Hours: Guaranteed 25 hours per week over 5 days including most Saturdays.You will typically work 5 hours per day starting at 6am. Occasional afternoon shifts may be required.It is a requirement of the job that occasional overtime is worked including Sundays, and Public Holidays.

Probation: Appointment is subject to satisfactory completion of 6 months’ probation.

Holidays:Holiday entitlement is 5 weeks 4 days per year increasing by a day each yearup to a maximum of 6 weeks 4 days after five years’ service. This holiday entitlement includes Public Holidays.

Pension: On successful completion of the probationary periodyou are eligible to join a defined benefits pension scheme (The People’s Pension) with an employer contribution of 3.5% of basic pay and a minimum matching employee contribution. During your probation you will be auto enrolled into The People’s Pension in accordance with statutory deadlines and contributions.
