FINANCE OFFICER

Responsible to: Assistant Head of Finance

Purpose of the Post:

To support in the financial management of Muslim Aid HQ expenses in particular, the processing of nominal ledger journals, cash book transactions and purchase ledger transactions.

Main Responsibilities

  1. To process payments of international and UK invoices, bills and cash entries and ensure they are correctly processed
  1. To generate and dispatch cheques/BACs/international listings and payments.
  1. To produce and review reports on a monthly basis and run Period End routine
  1. To update electronic banking system on a daily basis
  1. To analyse entries into donation, invoices, bills and cash entries
  1. To prepare and check batches of income entries and post to computer system
  1. To reconcile daily totals of transactions
  1. To prepare bank reconciliations
  1. To analyse donation income and expenditure against budgets
  1. To reconcile monthly income posted in nominal ledger to income processing figures
  1. To Input monthly journals and ensure they are correctly entered
  1. To process entries on US dollar and EURO currency accounts and prepare journals for these accounts
  1. To analyse donation income from donation system by theme and allocate indirect costs using set cost drive
  1. To assist in the preparation of schedules for annual statutory audit or specific funders audits
  1. Any other duties commensurate with the accountabilities of the post

PERSON SPECIFICATION

FINANCE OFFICER

Qualification

  1. Minimum A-C in GCSE Maths and English. (Essential)
  2. Educated to A Level standardor equivalent (Essential)
  3. AAT qualified. (Essential)
  4. Studying towards ACCA. (Desirable)

Experience

  1. Proven experience of working in a computerised accounting environment. (Essential)
  2. Experience of processing nominal ledger journals, cash book transactions and purchase ledger transactions. (Essential)
  3. Experience of using an accounting software and IRIS Payroll. (Essential)
  4. Accounting experience in the charity or not-for-profit sector. (Desirable)

Skills

  1. Exceptional numeracy skills. (Essential)
  2. Highly organised and excellent time management skills. (Essential)
  3. Advanced IT skills with a high proficiency in using spreadsheets and databases. (Essential)
  4. Excellent communication skills. (Essential)
  5. High level of analytical skills and strong attention to detail. (Essential)
  6. Highly skilled in processing multi currency payments. (Essential)

Knowledge

  1. Knowledge of a range of accounting and financial principles. (Essential).
  2. Knowledge of Sage 50/100 and Fund EZ accounting software (Desirable).
  3. Knowledge of HAP standards 2010 and DEC priorities. (Desirable).

Ability

  1. Ability to work under pressure and meet several conflicting deadlines and priorities. (Essential)
  2. Ability to use initiative to identify and solve financial problems. (Essential)
  3. Ability to communicate financial matters clearly to a range of different audiences, including non finance specialists. (Essential)
  4. Ability to prioritise own workload and work effectively with all stakeholders. (Essential)
