FINANCE OFFICER
Responsible to: Assistant Head of Finance
Purpose of the Post:
To support in the financial management of Muslim Aid HQ expenses in particular, the processing of nominal ledger journals, cash book transactions and purchase ledger transactions.
Main Responsibilities
- To process payments of international and UK invoices, bills and cash entries and ensure they are correctly processed
- To generate and dispatch cheques/BACs/international listings and payments.
- To produce and review reports on a monthly basis and run Period End routine
- To update electronic banking system on a daily basis
- To analyse entries into donation, invoices, bills and cash entries
- To prepare and check batches of income entries and post to computer system
- To reconcile daily totals of transactions
- To prepare bank reconciliations
- To analyse donation income and expenditure against budgets
- To reconcile monthly income posted in nominal ledger to income processing figures
- To Input monthly journals and ensure they are correctly entered
- To process entries on US dollar and EURO currency accounts and prepare journals for these accounts
- To analyse donation income from donation system by theme and allocate indirect costs using set cost drive
- To assist in the preparation of schedules for annual statutory audit or specific funders audits
- Any other duties commensurate with the accountabilities of the post
PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualification
- Minimum A-C in GCSE Maths and English. (Essential)
- Educated to A Level standardor equivalent (Essential)
- AAT qualified. (Essential)
- Studying towards ACCA. (Desirable)
Experience
- Proven experience of working in a computerised accounting environment. (Essential)
- Experience of processing nominal ledger journals, cash book transactions and purchase ledger transactions. (Essential)
- Experience of using an accounting software and IRIS Payroll. (Essential)
- Accounting experience in the charity or not-for-profit sector. (Desirable)
Skills
- Exceptional numeracy skills. (Essential)
- Highly organised and excellent time management skills. (Essential)
- Advanced IT skills with a high proficiency in using spreadsheets and databases. (Essential)
- Excellent communication skills. (Essential)
- High level of analytical skills and strong attention to detail. (Essential)
- Highly skilled in processing multi currency payments. (Essential)
Knowledge
- Knowledge of a range of accounting and financial principles. (Essential).
- Knowledge of Sage 50/100 and Fund EZ accounting software (Desirable).
- Knowledge of HAP standards 2010 and DEC priorities. (Desirable).

- Ability to work under pressure and meet several conflicting deadlines and priorities. (Essential)
- Ability to use initiative to identify and solve financial problems. (Essential)
- Ability to communicate financial matters clearly to a range of different audiences, including non finance specialists. (Essential)
