Resident Educator Persistence Data

(CAEP 4.3)

Description of Data:

The Resident Educator Program in Ohio is a system of support that encompasses a robust four-year teacher development system designed to improve teacher retention and increase student learning. The following description of the Resident Educator Program is provided by Ohio Department of Education:

The Ohio Resident Educator Program began in 2011 and has evolved to a comprehensive multi-year induction program, resulting in Professional Licensure with successful completion of the program and the Resident Educator Summative Assessment (RESA). The Ohio Resident Educator Program can be envisioned as the first years of a journey or the first steps on a path of continued professional learning, leading educators to more effective practices and excellence in teaching. While the purposes of each continue to differ: licensure (RE) and evaluation (OTES) the teacher residency program is designed to fit alongside with the Ohio Teacher Evaluation System (OTES), with clear linkages and connections between the two.

This report provides data for those entering and completing the Resident Educator Program in years 2011-2012, 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 along with attrition percentages for each year. Non-completion during a specific year does not imply dismissal, as leaving the program may be due to multiple factors. Persistence in the Resident Educator Program represents one measure of employers’ satisfaction with the completers’ preparation for their assigned responsibilities in working with P-12 students.

These data are provided by the state of Ohio and a summary published by the Ohio Department of Higher Education at the Ohio Board of Regents in the Educator Preparation Performance Report annually. Aggregate data only for the state and for each institution are provided; data are not disaggregated by the resident educators’ program areas. Each year data will be available for an additional cohort of resident educators.
