Research Project- Exploring the Elizabethan Era Zanos/English 10

All English classes will be participating in a research project in which you will have to research a topic and write a well-organized paper. My purpose in assigning this project is so all students will understand the steps in writing such a paper. This paper should be at least 4 FULL typewritten pages in length plus a works cited page.

1.  Select an approved topic from the list.

Make sure you can find at least three sources on this topic. You must use two electronic sources and one other source you can find. (IE: Magazines, books, newspaper articles, encyclopedias, etc.) Limit your topic and make the purpose of your paper clear. For instance, a general topic such as “divorce” can be reduced to “the damaging effects on children of divorced parents.”

2.  Plan your paper and take notes on your limited topic. (We will review this in class)

While you develop your thesis, try to develop three areas of support. Look for direct quotations; these will be mandatory in the final copy of your paper. You will need at least three! Write them exactly how they appear on your note cards. Each note card must have the name and page number of the source from which you took it.

3.  Begin your outline. A final outline will be typed and handed in before you begin your rough draft.

4.  Type your rough draft from your outline. This will be handed in.

5.  Type your final copy and works cited page. Your Works Cited page will be from your Working Bibliography. Use Times New Roman size 12 font.

6.  Use an acceptable format and method of documentation.

This will be your WORKS CITED page where you will document all sources you used to help you gather information for your paper. We will use MLA format and will discuss the use of this format in class.

We will make a trip to the library to recap on using the resources that the library offers. After this you will be responsible for researching your topic on your own. Of course I will be available to help you when needed. Good luck and happy researching!!!!!
