This coming week you will find three sources. Please see your guideline sheet to determine whether a source is valid. You will also write your claim. Your claim is what you are trying to prove or your thesis. Your claim must be narrow and arguable. Both your sources and claim must be checked by me by the end of the week for practice points.

March 23 – Discuss writing process and making a strong argument with Rogerian argument (how to argue in a nice way) and Rhetorical appeals. Look at examples of Paper Plan, rough draft research papers, and process.

March 24 – In class writing. Paper plan or outline due at end of period (25 practice). This plan may change.

March 25 – Plagiarism, summary, and paraphrase (powerpoint). In class exercise. HW: Find something to quote and practice writing summary, paraphrase, direct quote(25 Practice).

March 26 – Writing in Library. Write at least two pages of your rough draft (10 Practice).

March 27 – Writing in Library. Write the rest of your rough draft. When your paper is complete, then you should begin work on an interesting conclusion. Four pages of rough draft due and printed at the end of the period (50 Practice).

Spring Break!!

April 7 - Rough drafts returned. MLA powerpoint and transitions example.

April 8 – Begin Catcher in the Rye. Hand out books and packet. Listen and read Chapters 1-3. Work on Study questions. HW: Finish study questions for homework and study for Vocabulary tes.

April 9 – Vocabulary Unit 8 Test

April 10 – Work on revisions in Writing Lab.

April 13 – Library - Work on those rewrites! Your second draft must have significant changes/additions made to it based on my comments. Make sure you print in lab today if you cannot print at home.

April 14 – Second (polished) draft due (50 practice points). Bring two copies of your paper to class. Trade and grade proofreading workshop (2 responses @ 5 Achievement points each; you must give two and received two). This draft should be significantly different than the first.

April 15 – Catcher in the Rye. What is Holden like worksheet. Groups and Discussion.

April 16 – Library – Work on revisions and Works Cited page.

April 17 – Library – Salinger Research.

April 20 – Writing Lab – Work on revisions and Works Cited page. Research paper due.

April 23 – Library – SRI testing.
