RESEARCH AT SHERBOURNE

Dr Ainsworth has led clinical research studies at Sherbourne MC with the support of all the partners for the past 12 years. From time to time, patients with the appropriate medical history may be contacted to see if they are interested in taking part in studies relevant to their medical condition. Participation is purely voluntary and does not affect usual care. Anyone volunteering to take part in research will be helping towards the development of new products to fightdisease, enhance medical knowledge and promote evidence based best practice.

CURRENT STUDIES

Sponsor / Disease area / Brief outline / Duration
Takeda / hypertension / Patients have ambulatory 24 hours BP reading before starting 4 weeks single medication. If BP not at target then randomised to stay on this single medication or new combination medication with two further 24hour BP readings through the study / 18 week
Novartis / COPD / Study with a new inhaler for COPD. Full medical check with Bloods,ECG and spirometry. As two visits are for a full morning, £75 will be paid for these visits. / 12 Weeks
Merck Sharp& Dohme / Osteoporosis / Postmenopausal Ladies taking osteoporasis medication (not just HRT or calcium) either new or experienced taking the medications. Onesurgery visit with 3monthly questionnaires posted to your home. Study looks at any side effects and quality of life with this condition / 1 year
Shire-Movetis NV / Constipation / Male patients only with chronic (more than 6 months) constipation. The drug used is already licensed but there is not enough evidence of its effects on male constipation / 12 weeks
K Reich / Psoriasis / All patients receive Dovobet Gel with 50% also receiving a Topical Treatment Optimising Programme (TTOP).Study will consider if this programme enhances quality of life and overall extent/intensity of psoriasis. Patients receive all medication from the surgery and £22 for each of the 10 visits / 9 months

Every month we send off these items from the surgery to 2 Charities,

All medication must have 15 months until expiry, but can be opened and/or partly used
