Research Assistant Position

A Research Assistant (RA) is needed in the Department of Pharmacy. The RA will join a team of Pharmacy and Nursing investigators to conduct a pilot study to assess the feasibility of providing pharmacogenomic (PGx)-guided medication therapy management in residents of one to two retirement communities, and the feasibility of assessing process and clinical outcomes. The name of the study is the Pharmacogenomics in Long Term Care (PGx-LTC) project.

Roles and Responsibilities of the RA include: The RA will work with the faculty to accomplish the following tasks:

  • Complete orientation to the project, location(s), and involved members
  • Draft, finalize and obtain approval from the UW Human Subjects Division to conduct the study
  • Meet with the study team weekly
  • Prepare for and manage weekly meetings of the study team
  • Periodically meet with the PGx-LTC Advisory Board
  • Prepare for and manage periodic meetings of the PGx-LTC Advisory Board
  • Participate in sessions with the residents and staff at the involved sites to educate them about the project; Prepare materials for these sessions
  • Communicate with residents of involved sites
  • Obtain informed consent from residents participating in the project; preferably in a tablet computer
  • Participate in focus groups with staff and residents of involved sites
  • Ensure quantitative data are being collected accurately and completely
  • Prepare quantitative data for analysis
  • Conduct quantitative analysis of process and outcome measures
  • Maintain all study files
  • Assist faculty in drafting reports and manuscripts
  • Assist faculty in preparing presentations wherein results are shared with external audiences
  • Other duties as needed

Qualifications:

  • DNP or PhD student in Nursing Science or related discipline in academic good standing
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a team
  • Ability to solve problems creatively
  • Strong communication skills in writing and orally, especially with older adults
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent literature search skills and writing skills
  • Qualitative and quantitative analytic skills
  • Establish relationships with staff and residents in one to two retirement communities in the North Seattle area
  • Must be able to provide own transportation to one to two retirement communities in North Seattle area
  • Be available until June 2019 (hours may be reduced once RA becomes a candidate) – see below for requirement of satisfactory performance

Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in working with older adults
  • Experience in writing applications to the Investigational Review Board
  • Experience with computers, developing apps; being technologically savvy is a bonus

Duration: 04/01/2018—06/15/2018; spring quarter 2018. Exact days and hours of employment will be arranged between the RA and lead faculty; appointment is intended for renewal to June 2019, given satisfactory performance.

Position dimensions and Impact: This position will be key to accomplishing the aims of this feasibility study. Success will allow faculty to use these preliminary data to inform future grant applications in this field.

Working Environment:

Monday through Friday - mostly flexible hours

Availability to attend team meetings when not in class

Requirements: Appointment is governed by a union contract. In order to maintain eligibility for your appointment and its benefits, you will need to enroll in at least 10 credits each academic quarter and 2 credits during the summer quarter.
