FAS/Mexico’s Executive Summary: As a protective measure to guarantee the health of the Mexican population through the controlled use of additives in the preparation of food intended for human consumption and to cope with the constant development at the Food Industry, the Secretariat of Health (SSA) published the above-mentioned Agreement.
It is important to note that the listed additives must comply with the established specifications in the provisions included in the Appendix Chapter VIII of the “Regulations for the Sanitary Control of Goods and Services”, which can be found on the SSA’s website at www.ssa.gob.mx .
The authorized additives for the preparation of food, beverages and food supplements are listed in two tables: Table 1 lists additives by its International Numbering System (INS) nomenclature and common name, while Table 2 lists colorants by its INS nomenclature, common name and Color Index (C.I.).
