Required for All New Hires Without Prior Experience As Snow Sport Instructors

Well, it’s official. We had our first snow Sunday Oct. 28th (flurries at my house), and I got clearance from my orthopedic surgeon to have fun this winter. Now all I need are my new skis, and good snowmaking weather, so we can get on snow. Assuming we get it, here is the schedule for early season training:

Saturday, November 10:

Required for all new hires, with or without prior experience as snow sport instructors. This will be a general, orientation off snow.

Monday, Dec. 3:

Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 10&11:

Friday, Sat. Sun, Dec. 14-16:

Make up training dates. Training will be scheduled as needed.

For those of you thinking about going to the Children’s Academy this year, keep in mind that the dates have shifted to Jan. 7&8. If you want to do a PSIA or AASI level 1 exam in conjunction with the Academy, the dates are Jan. 7-9.

For returning people with less than 5 years experience at SSU, you need to do at least 8 hrs. of pre-season training. If you are returning and are level 2 or 3 certified, level 1 with more than 5 yrs experience at SSU, or you have more than 10 years at SSU, with or without certification, you need 4 hours of pre-season training. All new hires will receive a letter with your specific training requirements, depending on prior experience, in the near future.

As always, I’m looking for training ideas. I’ll be setting up some outside training (for those wondering, I’m already talking with Jeb Boyd), as well as exam training.

If you are thinking about certification this year, let me know. We have an alpine level 1 exam scheduled here for March 5&6. If there is interest, we can do an AASI level 1 exam as well. The full PSIA/AASI schedule is posted on the bulletin board in the Shop, or you can go on-line to www.psia-e.org you can reach me at 644-8516, or e-mail me at . Pray for snow.
