USA MASTERS TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN HONOLULU TO DRAW NEARLY 2000 OF NATION’S BEST AUG. 4-7, 2005

(Honolulu, Hawaii) – USATF and Hawaii Masters Track and Field are announcing that the 2005 USA Masters Outdoor Track & Field Championships, on the world’s only “Rainbow” track (University of Hawaii) Aug. 4-7, 2005, will draw nearly 2000 of the world and nation’s best masters (30-90 years old and over) track & field athletes.

Competitors at recent U.S. masters championships have ranged from the world’s most famous – including distance superstars Bill Rodgers and Joan Benoit Samuelson, NFL and track and field greats Willie Gault, Todd Christiansen, and Willie “White Shoes” Johnson, Sullivan Award finalist Philippa Raschker, and thousands of athletes 30 to over 100 years old making a mark for themselves as part of a lifetime fitness program. “World and recent personal records are considered equally important,” said Meet Director Mark Zeug. “At the 2005 Hawaii National Masters, competitors and their families will enjoy a great meet and have the vacation of a lifetime.”

At the just concluded USA Masters Indoor Championships in Boise, Idaho March 11-13, athletes crushed over twenty indoor world and American age group records. They are expected to obliterate as many or more outdoor world and American records on the University of Hawaii’s world class track. Spectators will see amazing performances by athletes 30-100 years old.

Track events (running and race walk) range from 100 meters to 10K, while field events include the full range of jumps and throws.

For registration/entry form, more information, and hotel and air travel meet discounts, interested persons may go to http://www.usatf.org/events/2005/USAMastersOutdoorTFChampionships/ or local organizing committee Website www.hawaiichamps.com , or call Mark Zeug at 808-732-8805. Media requesting logistics or interview information should call Bob Weiner, National Masters Media Chair, at 301-283-0821 or 202-329-1700.

Competitors and their families will enjoy Honolulu’s world-famous Waikiki Beach, Diamond Head, and Pearl Harbor, the meet’s special luau, island-hopping, and compete on the unique rainbow-colored track. Zeug urges the many expected out-of-state guests to book as soon as possible because Hawaii air and hotels in August fill up soon.
