WHITE BEAR LAKE AREA HOCKEY ASSOCIATION
REQUEST TO MOVE UP OR PLAY UP AN AGE LEVEL
USA Hockey, MN Hockey, and District 2 have set age guidelines to ensure that skaters are physically and mentally able to compete with each other. The WBLAHA supports these guidelines, but will consider Move Up or Play Up requests only under the following conditions outlined in the WBLAHA Handbook:
Skater is requesting to MOVE UP with their classmates/grade level as follows:
Age appropriate level (by birthdate) / Level of classmates / Grade player will enterMite/U8 / Squirt/U10 / 4th Grade
Squirt/U10 / Peewee/U12 / 6th Grade
Peewee/U12 / Bantam/U14 / 8th Grade
Bantam/U14 / Jr Gold/U19 / 10th Grade
NOTE: If a skater decides to move up with their classmates, he/she will play where their abilities allow. There will be no moving back. The decision must be in the best interest of the skater.
Skater is in his/her final year of the Mite or U8 program and is requesting to PLAY UP to the Squirt level:
- A Mite player in their final year of eligibilitymay request to try out for A/B Squirts pending approval from the Boys Hockey Director. The number of Play Ups using this provision cannot exceed 5 players total.
- Player must have played at the highest level of the Mite program the previous year.
- Player must try out for A/B Squirts and pay the non-refundabletryout fee.
- Player must make the A Squirt or the top half of the B pool Squirt teams. If not, he/she will return to the Mite or U8 program and be reimbursed the difference in registration fees, but not the tryout fee.
Girls Program:
Girls may be Moved Up in order to accommodate a full roster at the discretion of the Girls Director. Players being moved up will only be eligible for the lowest level team at that age group.
