Request for Exemption to the Minimum GPA

Minimum GPA

We grant admission interviews to co-op applicants who met the minimum required GPA in first year.If your GPA was very close to the minimum, and you think you would have achieved the minimum had it not been for one of the four types of extenuating circumstances we consider, you may apply for an exemption to the minimum GPA.

Business and Economics:Students in Business and Economics need to achieve an overall GPA of 8.7 out of 12. Students need an overall GPA of at least 8.2 to be considered for an exemption.

Arts and Science: Students need at least 6.30 to 6.49 overall and 7.0 in their major OR 6.5 overall and 6.8 to 6.99 in their major to be considered for an exemption.

Circumstances Considered for Exemptions to the Minimum GPA and Documentation to Support Your Request for Exemption to the Minimum GPA:

  1. A learning disability which was not accommodated during your first year.
  • Provide documentation from Accessible Learning. (Or from another university, if applicable.)
  1. An ongoing chronic, debilitating, and serious health problem.
  • Provide medical documentation that you received ongoing medical treatment in your first year at university, missed considerable time from classes, and that the health problem had an impact on your ability to submit assignments and write exams. Provide verification such as approval of petitions or letters from faculty members.
  1. A death in your immediate family (parent/legal guardian or sibling) during your first year at university:
  • Provide documentation of a death in your immediate family (parent, sibling or legal guardian.)

We will not consider deaths of friends or other relatives, including grandparents, unless they were your legal guardians.

  1. A serious and prolonged illness that occurred during your first year at university:
  • Provide documentation that you received ongoing medical treatment, missed considerable time from classes, and that this had an impact on your ability to submit assignments and write exams.
  • Include any pertinent documents, such as notes from faculty members and approvals of petitions.

We will not consider common illnesses such as mono, strep throat and influenza, or medical conditions related to fractures or wisdom teeth.

Note: This form is only for student who did not meet the GPA and who want us to exempt them from the minimum overall GPA. If you met the minimum required GPA please complete the extenuating circumstances form instead.
