JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION:Special Education Assistant to work in the classroom, in small groups or 1:1 with special education student. The continuation of this position is dependant upon the special education enrollment.

LOCATION: All Buildings

REPORTS TO: John Heley, Director of Special Services

QUALIFICATIONS:

•Applicants must have a high school diploma.

•A strong academic and/or ability to communicate, learn new skills, and adapt to a variety of working situations.

•Supervise students in settings such as the classroom, hallways, lunchroom, recess, etc.

•Assist students in the use and location of appropriate instructional materials.

•Work with students individually or in small groups on specific learning tasks and learning objectives, preschool through high school.

•The ability to communicate effectively with parents, students, and other staff members.

•Have, or be willing to obtain, a first aid certificate.

•Be willing to work with students with a variety of disabilities, including mental and physical disabilities.

•Able to lift. This pertains to the need for lifting and moving physically disabled children.

•Willing to be trained (on the job) to work with physically disabled children, including training in the care for personal needs of children.

•Willing to ride special education bus transporting students with disabilities.

•Must meet Title 1 Para educator requirements: Successfully complete two years of study at an Institute of Higher Education, or have attained an Associate’s Degree, or take ETS Paraprofessional Formal Assessment passing with a score of 461 or higher within this current school year.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:Salary per PSE schedule.
