Post: Marketing Officer

Reporting To: Marketing and Programming Manager

The Customs House is the premiere arts and entertainment centre in South Tyneside and has a national reputation for its work with young people and regional accolades for its theatrical productions, musical entertainment, and multi-award-winning annual Pantomime. A not-for-profit registered charity, The Customs House works for the benefit of its community. For many, it is where they first experience theatre, film and visual arts, and for some it provides the opportunity to become performers and creators of art themselves. The role of the Marketing and Programming Team is to broaden and deepen awareness of what The Customs House offers across our local and regional communities, increase brand awareness, and build attendances and revenues. Central to this function is audience development activity through advertising, social media and word-of-mouth campaigns; data collection through Box Office systems; market research analysis through Audience Finder and similar software services.

Areas of responsibility

Marketing Campaigns

•To create and implement detailed marketing plans in conjunction with the Marketing and Programming Manager to manage campaigns for individual productions including online, social media, front of house, advertising and direct mail activity.

•To delegate, manage and monitor certain campaign tasks

•To monitor and maximise Box Office income for each show.

•To work with the Marketing and Programming Manager in copywriting, layout and proofing of all marketing materials.

•To oversee certain show-specific campaign budgets, providing accurate reports, and regularly monitoring expenditure.

•To oversee print production for specific brochures, campaign literature and literature for other departments, as agreed with the Marketing and Programming Manager.

•To provide timely evaluation on specific campaigns, both qualitative (audience surveys, word of mouth) and quantitative (Spektrix sales reports, buying patterns).

Audience development

•To assist the Marketing and Programming Manager in implementing an audience development plan focusing on both maximising Box Office revenue and engaging with communities across the Borough, and wider area.

•To contribute to the work of our Group Bookings Co-ordinator by helping to target new groups both through group sales as well as through community networks.

•To work with the Learning and Participation Team to target new audiences and to grow sustained and strategic partnerships with key regional organisations.

•To help devise and deliver initiatives aimed at attracting first time attenders and building on-going relationships with those attenders.

•To help develop initiatives that makes The Customs House more accessible to a diverse audience.

External Partnerships Development

•To develop relationships with organisations and key agencies around the north east including cultural organisations, tourism agencies, funders and community networks to encourage sharing of information.

•To liaise and communicate with our sponsors and funders, and maintain positive relationships with them

Front of House Promotion

•To lead on foyer and front of house-based marketing activity working with visiting companies and internal print/copy to produce an attractive, welcoming reception

•To ensure that all public spaces and other spaces are welcoming and inviting, including posters, signage and front of house activities

•To work with the Marketingand Programming Manager to implement a customer feedback programme

•To contribute to season briefings for Box Office Staff

Other

•To provide support at press nights and other PR events.

Person Specification

ESSENTIAL / DESIRABLE
Experience of marketing in a theatre / arts environment / Experience of working in a Box Office and/or knowledge of the Spektrix system
Educated to degree level / Bachelors or Masters degree in Marketing
Knowledge and experience of social media as a marketing tool, including creating moving image for online campaigns / Knowledge of the north east arts sector and its audiences
Proven interest in theatre and the arts / Familiarity in using theatre/arts audience research tools such as Audience Finder
Strong computer skills, including Word, email & Wordpress websites / Expertise in building campaigns using social media and in identifying appropriate target networks.
Strong demonstrable copywriting skills and excellent attention to detail / Knowledge/experience of broadcast media
An ability to generate original marketing campaignideas / Working towards or completed a professional Marketing qualification
Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team
Strong interpersonal skills, combined with enthusiasm & energy

SalaryUp to £21000 per annum, dependent upon experience

Hours of Work Based on a 37 hr week. Due to the nature of the role there will sometimes be a requirement to work additional evenings. There is no overtime paid, there is a time off in lieu system.

Holidays31 days per year (including public holidays)

Probationary period:Six months

Notice periodFollowing the completion of a successful probationary period, the notice period is four weeks
