Events Manager
Reporting to: Head of Community and Events
Staff responsibility:Events Officer
Salary range:c£35Kplus contributory pension scheme
Location:Willcox House, 140-148 Borough High Street, London SE1 1LB
with some national travel
Holiday entitlement: 25 days plus 3 between Christmas and New Year and Statutory holidays
Working conditions:Full time, 35 hours a week, and permanent
The postholder will be expected to work some evenings and weekends. Time of in Lieu will be given in line with the charity’s policy.
About Bowel Cancer UK
Bowel Cancer UK is a growing, ambitious, national charity with around 30 staff and interns based at offices in England and Scotland and home based staff in Northern Ireland. Our mission is to save lives and improve the quality of life for all those affected by bowel cancer. We achieve this by raising awareness of bowel cancer, campaigning for best treatment and care and providing practical support and information.
About you:
You will have solid events experience with excellent communication skills. You will have a genuine interest in the aims and objectives of Bowel Cancer UK.
Job Purpose
To work closely with the Head of Community and Events to develop the team’s three year strategy and detailed annual plans
To lead on specified areas of the events programme, ensuring that all activities provide an excellent ROI
To lead and develop our well established Challenge programme
To grow our running portfolio
To research, develop and implement new initiatives, as agreed with the Head of Community and Events, to extend our events fundraising
To plan, attend and manage fundraising events as agreed with the Head of Community and Events
Main duties and responsibilities
Events Fundraising
- Proactively develop and implement plans to grow our treks and challenges programme, including considering and recommending additional activitieswhich will increase our income streams
- Recommend and develop bespoke events which will give us a point of difference from our competitors
- Identify means of increasing participants and revenue in our established running portfolio
- Research and consider ways of increasing own place participants in the treks, challenges and running programmes
- Develop and manage the Events Officer
- Working alongside our Communications team, plan and managethe publicity and promotion of our treks, challenges and runs, ensuring copy is up to date and relevant on internal and external websites and in all external advertising
- Identify and attract community and corporate groups to take part in Own Place Challenges in aid of the charity
- Grow and develop our supporter network
- Build and maintain relationships with our event participants, ensuring that they are well cared for in line with the team’s donor care strategy
- Expand opportunities for fundraising during Bowel Cancer Awareness Month
Additional Responsibilities
- Ensure that the use of Raisers Edge is effective, accurate and consistent
- Work collaboratively with other teams across the charity, including the health promotion team and corporate partnerships team
- Provide regular financial reports to Head of Community and Events and Finance team
- Undertake any other duties as required by the Head of Community and Events
Person Specification:
Experience and Skills
- Solid events fundraising experience, with a particular focus of treks, challenges and runs (a minimum of 4 years)
- Proven experience of developing and implementing events fundraising plans
- Significant experience of providing, developing and managing budgets and providing financial reports
- Educated to degree level or equivalent
- Proactive with the ability to think creatively and contribute ideas to the team
- Excellent attention to detail with pride in work
- Ability to work under pressure, manage time effectively and prioritise workload
- Good working knowledge of all Microsoft packages including Word, Excel and Outlook
- Knowledge of Raisers Edge (desirable)
