COMMUNITY GRANTS PROGRAM

Policy

The Glenelg Shire Council provides financial assistance to eligible community groups for projects within its boundaries that contribute to the achievement of the Shire’s vision.

This grants program is in addition to the Council’s annual:

  • Minor Recreation Grants
  • Public Halls Minor Grants
  • Tourism Funding Grants
  • Arts and Cultural Grants
  • Community Planning Grants

Funding Criteria

Distribution of funds will be determined after taking into account:

(a)Amount of funds available

(b)Equity across municipality

(c)Number of applications and funds sought

(d)Community group contribution to scheme funds sought

(e)Number of beneficiaries from the grant

(f)Viability of project

(g)The maximum single grant will be $1000, however expectations should be around $500, depending upon the project.

It is expected that the following areas will be supported:

(a)Community facilities that increase social, cultural, sporting and recreational opportunity and participation.

(b)Community development projects that enhance the sense of community, increase social capital or address unmet needs.

(c)Community capacity building projects.

Eligible for Funding

Applicants must be:

-A community organisation that is formally constituted, incorporated or registered;

-Located within the Glenelg Shire boundary;

-Not for profit;

-Have satisfactorily acquitted any previous grants from the Glenelg Shire Council;

-Have contacted the Community Development Officer prior to submission.

Ineligible for Funding

Grants are not available for administration costs, repair of equipment, rates, power costs, telephone and other recurrent costs of community groups. Grants will not be backdated.

Projects that are eligible to receive funding from other Glenelg Shire grants programs WILL NOT be eligible under this Community Grants Program. This includes:

-Minor Recreation Grants;

-Public Halls Minor Grants;

-Tourism Funding Grants;

-Arts and Cultural Grants and

-Community Planning Grants

Submission of Funding Application

(a)Applications should be submitted in writing for the next round of funding by the due date.

Assessment of applications and allocation of funds

(a)The Community Grants Program fund availability will be determined by Council during its budget estimates process and will vary from year to year. The Council will declare the amounts available after it completes the budgetary process.

(b)Each application shall be assessed and recommendations sent to Council for adoption.

CONDITIONS OF ACCEPTANCE

______are pleased to accept the Glenelg Shire Council Grant of $...... (Insert the amount) and undertake to comply with the following conditions.

  1. Use the grant for the purpose outlined in the application.
  1. Provide a tax invoice or invoice showing the ABN number, within ONE (1) month of receipt of notification of the grant application being successful. (If ABN number is not supplied successful groups will be required to complete a “Statement by a Supplier” form from the Australian Taxation Office)
  2. Reimburse the Glenelg Shire Council with any part of the grant monies which are not used for the project outlined in the application.

4.Within two (2) months of the completion of the project, I / We agree to complete and return to the Glenelg Shire Council, an Activity Report and a Financial Acquittal.

  1. Agree to fully acknowledge receipt of the grant on all relevant appropriate promotional material (eg. posters) and / or in all relevant publications (eg. programs, brochures, reports, etc.).

Future applications will not be accepted from organisations/groups that have failed to comply with the above conditions.
