Report on Key Stage 1 and 2 National Assessments 2016

The data below shows the school’s results in last summer’s national testing. Oratory’s results compare very favourably to national averages, which is a reflection of the hard work and commitment of pupils and staff.

Key Stage 2 (Year 6) Results

In 2014 the new National Curriculum was introduced which raised expectations in terms of children’s mastery of literacy and numeracy. In 2016, the SATs tests taken by Year 6 pupils were the first to reflectthe more difficult National Curriculum. The resultsare not comparableto test results from previous years, which took place under an entirely different system of assessment.Pupils took tests in Reading, Grammar Punctuation and Spelling (GPS), and Mathematics. Writing does not have a test, and is teacher assessed.

Pupils can be assessed as:

  • Working towards the Expected Standard
  • Working at the Expected Standard
  • Working at Greater Depth within the Expected Standard

Pupils’ raw score (the marks they receive in the test) are converted to ascaled score. A child who scores a scaled score of‘100’has achieved the‘expected standard’. A child who scores more than 100 is seen to be working above the expected standard. A child who scores below 100 is seen as working towards the standard. Children who achieve a scaled score of 110+ are classed as having achieved a ‘high score’.

Progress is also calculated differentlythan before. The National Average has been set at 0 and the Government has set the ‘sufficient progress’ measure as -5 for Reading, -7 for Writing and -5 for Maths.
