Renaissance Reading Packet Check-In
Honor Code Level 2
Purpose:Now that you have had some time to read through your Renaissance reading packets, we are going to take a little time to review some of the key points. Please complete the following two activities with a partner or on your own.
Helpful Tip: The faster that you complete these two tasks, the more time that you will have to read later!
Task 1:Vocabulary Development
Choose a word from your reading that you feel is important in order to understand the time period and/or reading. Ideally, we are going to have a variety of words posted to help us! Then…
- If you are the first person to choose the word, you can define the term on your paper. Be sure that this is big enough to be seen from the wall.
- If your word is already on the wall, then you can create an illustration that demonstrates the meaning of that term in its historical context. Be sure that the word is evident on your paper.
- If your term is already defined and illustrated on the wall, then you should create a sentence that uses the word correctly. Underline the word and write as big as you can on the paper provided.
Please talk with your classmates to try to identify as many words as possible and try to post definitions, pictures and sentences close together on the wall.
Task 2:Humanist Bumper Stickers
Create a bumper sticker that would represent an idea, belief or cause that a Renaissance Humanist would support and want to share with others. These can relate to a social, political, religious, cultural, scientific, artistic or militaristic element of life, should be easy to read and understand and should be historically relevant.
One the back you will write a paragraph explaining your idea and referencing your reading packet to support your understanding of Humanism. This can be done with a paraphrase or a direct quotation, but cite the source as necessary. Remember to include the author as well as the page number in any parenthetical citations.
