Paper Title

Remember to have all margins set to 1”, with header set to ½”. Font is to be set at Times New Roman 12 point. The entire paper is to be double spaced. The introduction needs to include a brief summary of the traditional practice including the country. Most importantly, the introduction needs to end with the thesis developed from the step 4 chart. Remember that the purpose is to inform about the impact that a tradition has on a community, the audience is Professor Patterson, and the type is a formal research paper. DO NOT say “the purpose of this essay is to inform…” rather The practice of ______in ______has a [positive/negative] impact on society because it leads to [noun phrase one from step 6], causes [noun phrase two from step 6] and results in [noun phrase three from step 6].

The body paragraphs need to have evidence for all ideas that is cited directly using internal notation. The format for this involves parentheses before the period including the author’s name, last name only (Scotch). When there is no author, the key words from the title of the article will be used (“Zulu Religion”). Only two or three words will be used for these notations where there is no author, and they must be enclosed in quotations inside the parentheses. Quotations will be closed before the notation, “ a form which can absorb and explain many failures and apparently contradictory evidence” (Scotch). A quote within a quote will use ‘single’ quote marks. “Text that is not needed can be taken out with ellipses . . .and text can be altered using [brackets]” (Scotch). See next page for Works Cited format.
