Black Country Living Museum is coming alive with forties glamour on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 July andvisitors can jive and jitterbug their way to one of the Museum’s most remarkableweekend and evening events of the year. Sandbags have been filled, windows taped and posters pasted asHome Front history declares ‘Your Country Needs You’.
Relive the nostalgia of the era with the sights and sounds of wartimeBritain.Military police checkpoints, ARP Wardens, squaddies, G.I.s, Land Girls, Canaries and a cavalcade of military vehicles patrol the streets. Visit the popup hair salon in the park and ‘get the look’ with a fabulous forties hairdo ** whilst songs from the D-Day Darlings and dance lessons raise the spirit of the Blitz.
Life is a cabaret with Marjorie Cartwright-Jones who will be conjuring memories of the war years in her show ‘Marjorie Cartwright-Jones Is All Front!’ ‘Make Do and Mend, Home Front Kitchen and Beauty Tips for the Ladies are just some of the entertaining topics on the menu. Add to that stirring speechesby Churchill and Monty and you’ve aweekend’s entertainment for the history books where everything is rationed – except the fun!
