1Overview
Please read the entire document before beginning. This document covers the installation of Relius Administration 7.3 upgrade from Relius Administration 7.0 or later, which must be installed and fully functional before proceeding. This upgrade is cumulative and can be installed on any version of Relius Administration 7 without other releases or service packs. If you are unclear about this installation, please contact Support at 1-800-326-7235, option 3.
The process of updating Relius Administration has experienced several changes in scope and delivery. To save time and clients’ resources, SunGard Corbel has released updates to its products through the World Wide Web. This method has been used to deploy Service Packs and has proven to be valuable to the client in receiving updates to their systems quicker and more efficiently. Minor releases will now be distributed in the same fashion, beginning with Relius Administration 7.1. The breakdown of the release cycle and some examples are detailed below. To determine what version you are currently running, click Help | About from the main Relius Administration menu.

Your workstations and database must be running Relius Administration 7.0 (or greater) before installing this release. You do not have to install Service Packs 1 or 2 for Relius Administration 7.0, or Relius Administration 7.1 or 7.2, since this update is cumulative from version 7.0. However, running the 7.3 installation without 7.0 installed first will cause the installation to fail.
Release Updates will be installed via self-extracting installation program. Simply double-click the downloaded file and follow the on-screen prompts, detailed herein. The database will be updated through a script-running process, files will be copied to their appropriate location, and the system will finalize the settings necessary to run the updated release.
The installation of Relius Administration 7.3 involves the following basic procedures:
1)Read and understand this document.
2)Ensure all workstations have Relius Administration 7.0 or later properly installed and configured.
3)Install Relius Administration 7.3 and all components, running upgrade scripts against database.
4)Set up additional workstations (if necessary).
2Installation and Environment Considerations
2.1Installation Methods
Relius Administration 7.3 is available via download from the SunGard Corbel FTP Site ( Each workstation will require access to the downloaded file. If a network drive is used to install the software, it must be mapped with a drive letter assigned. Running the Relius Administration 7.3 SETUP from a network drive accessed by browsing with Network Neighborhood will fail.
2.2Software fixes via Internet
Fixes and support files are distributed via the web at Users must have Internet capability to receive these fixes. Visit our web site and click “subscribe” ( to receive notification of new fixes by e-mail. SunGard Corbel does not send patches and updates through the mail, and we strongly urge all users to subscribe to this service. Updated documents can be obtained at ftp://ftp.sungardcorbel.com/administration/ra73/docs.
2.3Virus Scanners
Although SunGard Corbel does not endorse, support, or recommend any particular method, virus protection is encouraged on servers and workstations. The two most popular are Symantec’s Norton Anti-Virus and McAfee VirusScan by Network Associates. You should update your virus definition files regularly. Clients should consider disabling virus-scanning software, install Relius Administration, test the application, and then enable virus scanning.
Some virus scanners – if active during the installation – can interfere with a successful installation. Symptoms include an error message stating that a file cannot be overwritten. Temporarily disable virus scanning before starting the installer.
2.4Windows NT Workstation/Windows 2000 Professional Considerations
Responsibility for support of problems and issues related to Relius Administration 7.3 running in a locked-down security configuration is that of the end user. Certain circumstances may require billing on a time and material basis. SunGard Corbel cannot guarantee that Relius Administration 7.3 will install or operate properly on any given locked-down security configuration. Relius Administration 7.3 is certified and supported only when run on the default Windows NT/2000 security settings.
The Windows NT/2000 Administrator (or a user with equivalent Administrator rights) must run the installation.
2.5Hardware and Software Requirements
All hardware requirements are specified in Appendix A of this document.
- Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0 Workstation with Service Pack 6a or greater, or Windows 2000 Professional with Service Pack 2 or greater. (Windows 98 and Me systems should have the most recent patches and Y2K fixes installed. See for more information.) Windows NT 4.0 must have Internet Explorer 5.0 or greater installed.
As of June 5, 2002, Windows XP (Home and Professional) is supported.
Note: Windows Me (Single-User and Multi-User) and Windows NT 4.0 (Single-User only) will not be supported with our next release, Relius Administration 8.0.
- Personal Oracle 7.3.4.0.0 database or Oracle Workgroup Server 8.1.7R3 pre-installed.
- Appropriate printer driver (HP LaserJet III or greater).
- TCP/IP Network Protocol for multi-user systems. TCP/IP must have a static IP address on the database server. SPX is no longer supported by Oracle; for that reason, SPX is no longer an option for a network protocol.
- Minimum video resolution of 800 x 600 with 256 colors.
- Upgrade Order of Installation
Your workstations and database must be running Relius Administration 7.0 (or greater) before installing this release. You do not have to install Service Packs 1 or 2 for Relius Administration 7.0, or Relius Administration 7.1 or 7.2, since this update is cumulative from version 7.0. However, running the 7.3 installation without 7.0 installed first will cause the installation to fail.
2.7Important Note
If you are using the Relius Administration Web, VRU, or CSR modules, you must already be running the latest release of Relius Administration before applying this release. This means that your workstations must already be running Relius Administration 7.3, upgraded from Relius Administration 7.2. In addition, your WEB, VRU, and CSR servers must also already have 7.2 installed. Please note that the workstation and Web/VRU/CSR releases and service packs must be run incrementally. If you have not run these updates incrementally or if you have run them out of order, Technology Support will need to assist you. This may cause additional delays and downtime when upgrading to 7.3. If you have not already installed 7.2 or if you are unsure about the version you are currently running, please contact Technology Support for assistance.
2.8Novell GroupWise Considerations
Users of Novell GroupWise may encounter problems while running Relius Administration 7.3. Specifically, some versions of GroupWise and Oracle are not compatible and will generate many errors that appear to be phantom in nature, possibly causing your workstation to lock up. To avoid these problems while running Relius Administration from your workstation, SunGard Corbel suggests closing Novell GroupWise.
3Performing the Relius Administration 7.3 Installation
Pre-installation Notes:
a)This installation is valid for Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT Workstation, Windows 2000 Pro, Windows XP, and Windows 2000 Terminal Services if properly licensed by SunGard Corbel. All references to “Windows,” unless otherwise noted, are also valid for the above named operating systems.
Windows Me (Single-User and Multi-User) and Windows NT 4.0 (Single-User only) will not be supported at Relius Administration 8.0.
b)Run Scandisk or CHKDSK to check the integrity of your hard drive and have any problems resolved before installing this release.
c)Be sure no screen saver will become active during the installation. SunGard Corbel discourages the use of screen savers whenever running Relius Administration or its Installer.
d)Relius Administration 7.3 installs many of its support files in the “System” directory, normally C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM or C:\WINNT\SYSTEM.
e)The installation process takes approximately 1/2 hour to complete. The process of upgrading the database may take longer, depending on the amount of data in the database. In testing the release at SunGard Corbel, larger databases have taken up to 2 hours to complete. Subsequent installations to workstations on a multi-user database will only take a few minutes.
f)Review the Relius Administration 7.3 system requirements located in Appendix A. Do not proceed with the upgrade if your environment does not meet the minimum system requirements.
h.)Ensure you have a valid backup and database export of your system before beginning the upgrade. Before beginning, you must READ and AGREE TO the following:
In performing this upgrade procedure, I, the software end user or individual intending to perform the software update, understand, acknowledge, and agree that this upgrade program will make substantial necessary changes to my database to make it compatible with version 7.3. There is a potential for the changes not to occur correctly, due to a variety of factors, many of which are out of the control of SunGard Corbel.
I understand that valid, restorable database backups are vital in order to recover from a situation where, for whatever reason, the database modification fails to occur successfully. Restorable backups are necessary to ensure that I can restore my system to its present state. I agree that SunGard Corbel is not responsible for performing my data backup, nor is SunGard Corbel responsible for setting up, monitoring, or warranting proper operation, backup, or restorability of data from said backup system. I agree that I, the end user, and not SunGard Corbel, am fully responsible for the backup of data, for the integrity of backed-up data, and the restorability of backed-up data. I also agree that I am fully responsible for any consequences stemming from an inability to properly restore data, regardless of the reason or circumstance the restoration was made necessary originally, including software error or software fault attributable to the SunGard Corbel-provided software product or service.
I understand and agree to the above. Use of this release indicates my acceptance of the terms above. If I do not agree with the terms above, I will not perform this upgrade and will contact SunGard Corbel for assistance.
This message is not intended to alarm but rather to reinforce the importance of backing up Relius Administration plan data. If the upgrade is performed without valid backups AND something goes wrong during the upgrade process, there is potential to lose some or all of the Relius Administration plan data contained in the Oracle database.
3.1Download the self-extracting installation program from the SunGard Corbel FTP Site ( and copy it to an easily accessed location. In these instructions, D:\Temp will be used.
3.2Remove any icons or shortcuts from the StartUp folder. Additionally, programs that are set to launch when Windows is started can also be specified in C:\WINDOWS\WIN.INI. Please edit this file using Notepad. Temporarily remark the entries RUN= and LOAD= by placing a semi-colon (“;”) in front of the line (if programs are specified), then Save and Exit the WIN.INI file. Example of remark:

3.3Re-start the computer. Windows or other programs may have locked some files that need to be overwritten during the upgrade process.
3.4Temporarily disable all virus protection.
3.5Click Start, then Run and type D:\Temp\Ra73Sp00.exe in the command box, then click OK.
3.6Because this installation is a self-extracting executable, several files will extract and copy to temporary locations for the installation process.
3.7Users of Windows Me (Single-User and Multi-User) and Windows NT (Single-User only) will receive the message shown below. This message serves as a reminder that Relius Administration 7.x is the final supported release for these operating systems. When Relius Administration 8.0 is released, these Operating Systems will no longer be supported. Furthermore, the installation will abort on these systems. Plan accordingly.
3.8Windows 98 Users will receive the message shown below. Although Windows 98 is currently supported, future releases of Relius Administration, beginning with version 8.0, may not be supported on Windows 98.
3.9The Relius Administration 7.3 Setup “Welcome” screen appears. Please note that all open programs need to be closed at this time. Click Next to continue.
3.10If you already installed this Release, you will be prompted to continue. There is no harm in clicking “Yes.”
3.11The installation will then check the level of your database.
3.12If not previously run, database upgrade scripts will need to be run against your database.
3.13You will be prompted to ensure your database is backed up and all users are disconnected from the system.
3.14Your database will have all necessary scripts run against it to bring it to version 7.3. During the process of upgrading the database, please be patient and let the upgrade finish. Do not interrupt.
3.15If present, VRU databases will be automatically updated. Note the database names have changed to reflect the database being updated. Please be patient and do not interrupt the process. As with the main database, users will need to be disconnected from the system, and the database server should have already been backed up (see Step 3.12).
3.16Windows 2000 Pro workstations may encounter the message shown below. Click OK.
3.17The installation will then copy and register the new Relius Administration 7.3 files.
3.18You may encounter the message below, or one similar to it, stating a read-only file has been detected. This occurs as some report files were originally installed as read-only on the workstation. Check the “Don’t display…” option and click Yes to continue.
3.19Once all Relius files have been copied and registered, click Finish. The installation is complete. There is no need to reboot the computer. Repeat the process for each workstation. Since scripts will need to only be run the first time on a multi-user database, they will not be re-run. The installation program will detect that the database has already been updated, so steps 3.10 through 3.13 will be ignored. Single-user (PO7) databases will require the scripts to be run against each database.
3.20To verify the version and service pack level, open Relius Administration, click Help | About, and review the contents of the “About” screen.

Hardware Requirements
(For Multi-User Database Server Requirements, please call 1-800-326-7235.)
Although system requirements vary from client to client, the following is a list of basic requirements. Your requirements may change based on the number of participants accessing your Web Server, Internet connection speed, security, safety, etc.
- Pentium III 500 or greater
- 128 MB RAM
- 4 GB Hard Drive
- Minimum SVGA Video Resolution of 800 x 600 with 256 colors
- Windows 98/Me/NT/2000 Pro/XP Home/XP Pro
- Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher
- Windows Compatible Mouse
Free Disk Space: A minimum of 500 MB of free disk space on the drive where program files are to be located is recommended. Single-User systems require additional space on their hard drives. Please consult your main installation document for further details.
Note:Windows 95 is no longer supported. Windows Me (single-user and multi-user) and Windows NT 4.0 Workstation (single-user systems) will not be supported at Relius Administration 8.0. As of June 5, 2002, Windows XP is supported.
Note:Windows must be installed on the local C: drive of the workstation. Operation of Relius Administration with Windows run from a local hard drive other than C: or run from a network drive is not supported. In all cases, Windows be run from C:\WINDOWS (or \WINNT).
Printers
Most Windows compatible laser printers will work. SunGard Corbel highly recommends the Hewlett Packard LaserJet Series III printers or newer. These printers are fully supported by Windows, Novell, and most all other software available on the market. For plans with large numbers of participants you will need to consider printer duty cycle, print speed, turnaround times, etc.
Appendix BReviewing Log Files
Log files were created during the script running process. The logs must be checked manually for errors. Reviewing the log files generated is a vital element of the upgrade. If you fail to review the logs or report any errors to Support, some of your data may be corrupt, missing, or your database will not function properly. SunGard Corbel cannot guarantee data integrity if you begin running Relius Administration with a corrupt database, nor can SunGard Corbel guarantee recovery of missing data. Please perform the following steps:
B.1From the workstation where the installation was first run (and the database was upgraded), click Start | Find | Files or Folders. Search for files on the drive starting in C:\QtTemp.
B.2In the “find” window, type RA*.* in the “named” field and ORA- in the “containing text” field. Next, select the “Date Modified” tab and click the “In the Previous (1) day” radio button. Click “Find Now.”
B.3You will receive a list of all the logs that contain ORA- errors created today. Open the first file by double clicking on it. Associate the file with Notepad or WordPad, if needed.
B.4Once the file is open, search for the string ORA-. There are no acceptable ORA- errors with this release. Any error must be reported to Support before you begin running Relius Administration 7.3.
B.5It is important to note that the scripts be run only once. Damage to your schema and your data may occur if the scripts are run again without the supervision of Support. Please call Support if you have any questions or concerns about the script running process.
